Clamp Wastegate rubber hose = More Power

I was told by a diesel mechanic the other day that a simple 25hp could be had by simply clamping the rubber hose from the Turbo Wastegate on the ETH.



Has anyone ever tried this? What were your results? Seems like it would need more fuel to take advantage of any increase in pressure.

1. Without a boost module, you'll be setting overboost codes!



2. While more boost would probably lower EGT's, more fuel is required to produce more power. By merely pinching the hose to the wastegate closed, the ECM will defuel when it senses the overboost condition, so I can't see how any additional horsepower would be generated.



To use the additional available boost, you would need a boost module to "fool" the ECM in order to keep it from setting codes and defueling. With the additional available air, you could then use a fueling box (the Edge EZ is one example) to get more horsepower. By the way, the Edge EZ has a boost module built into it!

Thanks, RustyJC. That's what I thought, too. I've read a great deal here at TDR and thought this would be too good to be true.



It makes me wonder, though, about Dodge's corporate thinking. If these engines were actually meant to have more power and run better and cooler with more power, why in the world would a company want to limit the power? Of course, one obvious answer to my question would be the powertrain constraints, but hey, offer the 300 hp version as an option with the 6 speed, the way they do the "HO" now. I guess that's why I'm not the head of some corporation; things like this seem like a no-brainer to me.
