I have an 06 quad cab dually with the g56 I have read a couple of different threads on the amount of fluid this transmission takes and how to fill. I would like to change over to amsoil and I want to know what to expect. some have said that it takes 4 quarts, and some have said that it takes 6 but to put 6 in you have to pull the shifter tower and put 2 quarts in from the top. can anyone give the precise amount of fluid and proper way to fill.

i have changed my g6 trans oil and it took 6 qts exactly. drained at plug on bottom and filled through the side plug. its my understanding that some of the very first g56 had the fill plug in the wrong place and they would only take 4 quarts and this is not enough. you might search thru the old post and find this information. but im telling ya mine took 6 quarts thru the fill hole.

The oil plug was in the CORRECT spot on the early G56, but they didn't prelube the transmission when it was assembled and the some bearings were starved for oil (installed dry)... the overfill was to ensure the bearings got oil and was a one-time-only thing...
