Why diesel engines are better vs. gas?

Home at last!

ive been lurking and doing my homework for awhile but have a question. im in the market for a 96-98,5 spd. , 12 valve truck and finding one around where i live is proving to be difficult. is there something to look at in the VIN to make sure of the 215HP inj. pump? or are all 96-98 manual trans. trucks 215 HP? its lookin like im gonna have to get one out of state and want to know exactly what im going to look at. Thanks

truck purchase

I looked at ebay for a truck for 3 months untill the one came up that i wanted and could afford. my 97 man. has a 215 pump but don't know if all do.

Good luck

From what I know, the '97 and early '98 5spds were 215 HP. The best insurance is to look at the engine ID plate. It is mounted on the front drivers side of the timing case. It will tell you the HP rating of the engine and the torque.

A fellow member and very close friend of mine wanted to go the same route as you. ('97-'97 12v) He then at my suggestion looked into the HO and bought that instead. He is happy.

94-95 auto- 160hp pump

94-95 manual- 175hp pump
