Clark 5sp in a 1st Gen?

Clarks have a reputation for bulletproof service in medium trucks.

If they can't tear them up in a rock truck, wouldn't they offer long

term service in a CTD? I've never driven one, are there drivability

problems? Have any of you tried one? Enquiring minds...
 
I've heard that the clark transmission is not an overdrive. I don't know first hand but that would be a driveability issue.

You're right Matt, that Clark trans is not an overdrive unit. I'd thought about that myself but with 4:10s, that just wouldn't work. Now if your truck is geared 3:08 or something, well now, that's a different story. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Dodge didn't gear these things to use a Clark without the overdrive crap! The design of these Getrash transmissions is insane. Who, in their right mind, would put a geared overdrive 5th gear in a diesel truck? ... ... ... ... ... Racer:confused:
 
There is one version that is an overdrive it is the FSO-4305, it has a . 77 in fifth and is rated at 415 lbs. ft. torque. The only thing is I don't know what bell housing to use or if it would mate to our clutch. This transmission is Mfg. by Eaton they own Clark now.
 
Clark's are about as big as the NV4500, I think the input shaft is larger and maybe 25lbs heavier, I've got a rebuilt 282v66 clark 5spd sitting in the garage that I don't think I'll be using now, I've got $1100 into to it... any interest... best offer:)
