Class A pulling a Dodge Ram

Hi everyone,



I am running into dead ends on this as far as finding answers via the web. I have a 2006 Ram and was wondering what size Class A I would need to easily pull my truck around this country with about 2500 lbs in the back. We own a online business which we will begin traveling full time for 4-6 months a year. I want to use the truck once we get somewhere to shuttle back and forth. I thought of a 5er but will eventually need the bed for storage of books and tables and such. We homeschool our 3 girls and would like the space in the class A for this and the extra room. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Do you mean what length of Class A motorhome do you need?



Towing a 7500 lb truck + 2500 lbs of stuff in the bed, you are going to need a powerful Class A with a big pusher diesel motor, possibly larger than a Cummins ISC and a big bad Allison 1000 trans.



Class A motorhomes step you up into a whole different level of cost than I am used to... If you have the funds for a Class A, then towing 10,000 lbs should not be a problem.



Also, please ensure you are going to be happy/comfortable driving a Class A across the country. Maybe watch the Robin Williams movie...

Go t RV.net fulltimers or class A post there or Escapees.com most likely you will need a bus conversion with a Detroit Diesel in it or a bigger Cummins or CAT. Plenty available many reposed at this point.

Living down here in snowbird heaven, the class A motor-homes I've seen towing a full size Dodge have been the multi-million $$$$$ rigs, all along the 40' Diesel pusher or larger.

After some thought and a look at the wallet I think I will stick with a 5er. I am not going to sell my first born for it. And yes I found a 42 ft Monaco that would pull it according to the specs for a mere 395k... yikes! I will have to get a 5er with good storage. . I suppose I was dreaming. Unless I start a band and hit the top 40 I will need to stay here in reality. . :-laf

Can you drive a bigger truck? There are used toterhomes for sale everwhere.

Depending on your budget.

A toterhome used to be specific to the motorsports industry with a few here & there owned by ex-truckers, etc.

Essentially it is a class 6/7/8 truck with a motorhome on the back of it.

They'll pull quite a bit, depending on what you license them for in combination use. However, being a "real truck" they usually have some sort of Roadranger transmission; some have Allisons, though.

The one pictured is a 41ft, 2007 Freightliner, with 450hp and a 30,000lb bumper pull style hitch. $179,000

There are many, many, MANY advertised at classyrv.com for less than that.

Yeah I have a Class B with air. I have had it for awhile now and just keep renewing it even though I no longer use those trucks anymore but don't want to take that dang test again. Its funny I just saw one of those on the freeway the other day, it was pulling a huge fox trailer. . I figured it was a Supercross team headed somewhere. Thanks for the ideas.

... . yet having one means (hopefully) the driver is qualified to be behind the wheel of something that big, which is more than expected, especially with all the half blind blue hairs running down the freeway WAY over their head in a huge bus...
