Class IV or V Hitch...

I'm looking at going to a TT with a hitch weight of a little over 1,000lbs. The hitch receiver I got with my truck in '95 states that it has a capacity of 10,000lb GTW/1,000lb hitch wt with a weight dist. set-up. I know that I "might" never have a problem using my current hitch receiver if I go up in trailer hitch wt, but I want to go with a 12,000/1,200 receiver so I have cushion.



Any recommendations for which manufacturer and where I might find the best price? eTrailer.com seems to have good prices on both Hidden Hitch and Draw-tite, but if they don't have a good reputation then the price doesn't mean squat. Do I have to change the ball mount (shank & trunion) and spring bars that I got with the weight distribution set-up when I bought my trailer?

The factory hitch is only a Class III and they are know to have issues with them, some years more than others. I think it is a wise decision on your part to opt for a better hitch.



I have a Putnam XDR Class V and have been very happy with it. the reason I went with it is because I did not want to go to a 2. 5" receiver. The price was pretty good too.

Torklift

The Torklift is a helluva hitch but kinda spendy. They stack 2-2" tubes on top of each other in their configuration so you can continue to use 2" drawbars.



The hitch is mainly aimed at slide in camper owners who need a long extension to clear the camper overhang and still tow a good load.



Still it is one big, beefy hitch. It's a Class V naturally.

46mech, I have the Putnam also. I think for your application, this would be fine as opposed to something like the monster Reese Titan. I don't know much about setting up weight distribution hardware but I would think it adjust to the new hitch and trailer. Call this place for a price, 1. 800. WEAVERD

The link goes right to the Pull right hitch and at $140 it is not bad. The neat thing on this one is it has bigger bolts so you need a 5/8 Bit to ream out the existing holes... The onther neat thing on this is it ha s a "L" bracket to go on the inside of the frame to mout to the front bolt and 2 of the side bumper bolts so the load end of the hitch has a little more hold.



I tow a trailer that is a toybox and it has a 1200# hitch when empty and I also use the hensley arow hitch. This makes the TT feel like a 5th wheel... . but is expensive. ($2800) It completely eliminates the sway assoc. with TT and it is a snap to hook up since the Equalizer bars are perm. attached to the unit.
