I have an 03 3500 and I put a putnam hitch on mine b/c I didn't like the factor style hitch and I must say it was one of the best investments I have made. It is truely heavy duty and will hold anything you through at it and I have tested it with pulling routinely 13-14,000 lbs on the highway and on ruff country roads. So I say go with a putnam you won't be disappointed.
Thanks for the feedback, Wolffman. Do you have any pictures of the Putnam installed on your truck? Just curious how low it hangs compared to the Reese... Thanks again!
I don't have any pictures I just ordered a dig. camera so as soon as I get it I will be posting pics. However, I know on the 03's the reese hangs real, too low for my tastes. The putnam tucks right under the factor rear cross member where the factor hitch is either welded or bolted to so it at the right height and is hidden pretty well.
I just installed a sure pull class V. Aside from having to bore out the factory holes, the install was easy. It appears to be a well built receiver and hangs about like the factory one. The only issue I have is with the trailer wiring harness needing to be relocated.
I replaced my factory hitch with a Putnam. It is rated at 1700 tongue and 17K towing. Its tucked up nicely under the bumper and helps to show off the Mag Hytec.

I have a Reese class V. It's simple to mount, bolts right up. I use a 48" extender to tow trailers behind my camper. So far I've had no problems on the bumpiest of mountain roads or the highway. It doesn't seem right having a massive extension, but I chain it up and trust what they claim.
