Went to the stealer this a. m. to have the lift pump looked at and replaced. Luckily they happened to have one for another job and put it on mine. Anyway, when I went to pick up the truck, the service writer says, "The tech wants to talk to you before you leave. " I'm thinking, here we go. :-{}

We go out into the garage and the tech says, "What did you do to your turbo?"

I say, "I haven't done anything to my turbo, why?"

"Because you are building alot of boost. "

Which I don't know how that is possible because the stock elbow is back on there and my boost gauge only shows 19 psi max. And I proceeded to tell him just that.

He says, "Your boost is coming on pretty fast and I noticed you have a different hose clamp on the elbow. "

I acknowledge the hose clamp but leave it at that.

He then says, "I took out a 2002 H. O. to compare and yours has alot more power, are there RV injectors in it?"

"Nope. " Which is true, there aren't RV injectors in it, just 2's. :D

At this point I can see he is puzzled and he proceeds to tell me that a buddy of his has an '02 that he is looking to get some more power out of and he wanted to pick my brain for ideas. Yeah right, a diesel mechanic is going to ask a layman about how to tune up a diesel? I don't think so. I can see he is trying desperately to trick me into coughing up additional info, but it's not working.

I then told him that I had purchased the truck used with 13K mi on it, so who knows what the previous owner may or may not have done. He says, there's no way to tell aftermarked injectors from OEM by just looking at them and that he would have to pull them and run their numbers to see. Sorry pal, not on my truck.

Finally, when I'd had enough, I changed the subject and asked if it was running better with the new pump. In parting, I told him that if his buddy was interested in performance upgrades he should go online and do his homework. :p I said I had heard there's quite alot you can do to a diesel to make more power, if ya got the dough. Or so I've heard. :D

Hmmmmm.........

Might be the first time he's ever seen a boost gauge!!

Must be heck driving with that low of boost and DD2's. On one dealer trip I took the EZ off and stock boost. I forgot what a pig this truck was.

Glad you got your pump in, hopefully it will last.

Good Story - If they ask about RV injectors you can put it back them with "Were the RV injectors part of the towing package"

I don't know, he may have just been curious. Most dealer techs I've met could care less whether you have mods as long as they aren't the cause of a warranty claim. It's usually the service writer you have to watch out for.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was being "honest". The "diesel tech" at the local dealer in Appleton told a co-worker that he could hop up his 2000 but "replacing some plate in the injector pump".

He test drove a friends '95 5 speed truck with a #5 plate (nothing else) and just about wet his pant gushing about how fast it was...

all the diesel mechanics i've ran into at dodge and cummins (guys that have worked for Cummins for years) don't know squat about making horse power, they just know STOCK. i have a buddy that works for a dodge dealership as their diesel guy, he is very knowledegable about problems and is just as good as anybody when it comes to making a truck perfect at the STOCK level. i met him by having a transfer pump go out and i paid him on the side. (he hooked me up) he told me the trucks could be made fast pretty easy and i got interested. he told me all i had to do was crimp my wastegate line. lol. i dont htink he even knew about changing plates. since i have enlightened him and he is learning. haha.

it was a fellow TDR member that lives near me whos truck sparked up a conversation that led me hear and led my wallet to empty! lol, and i love him for it!
