Well I guess there is a reward for patients. :D

After almost 24 hrs of driving, I came home with a Clausing 8520.

It needs a little cleaning, but is in excellent cond.

Now..... tooling it. :eek:

It's in 3 pieces right now. :{

I had to pull the head, and take the column off of the stand to get it in Dad's Dakota. :-lafy:

Looks like this:

I'm not as old as the dude in the pick and most likely will not be wearing the mad scientist lab coat . :-laf

The head is nice and quiet. It wasnt used much. Minor very light surface rust. WD40 and a shop rag just about removed it.

Table has either rust or coagulated oil. I'm hoping it's oil or I may need to get that re surfaced. I'll need to spend some time on it with kerosene and brass brushes and some scotchbrite. Table has 1 gouge spot. Not too bad.

No powerfeeds. The guy had it on CL for $2000+ with the clausing pf. Someone bugged him into selling it off the machine. From what I gather it takes a standard servo 140 feed just like a Bridgeport. About $300-$400.

I think I'll need to get a DRO for it first.

Looks like orig paint, in pretty good cond. I may just wipe it down with WD40 and leave it alone. :eek:

X and Y axis seems tight.

Inside the column looks like new. :p

No rust on the crank handles. Some petrified oil.

#2 MT toolholding. Not my 1st choice, but I'm OK with it. :D

Cost me $750 + $200 in gas + 24hrs of driving. :p

If I so chose I could almost double my $$$ tomorrow if I wanted to sell it.

You dont run into too many 8520's around here and when you do theyre usually 1. 5-$2K~ish. Probibally not as nice either.

Go for the shop coat, pocket protector and 6" clip on pocket scale it'll completes the look.

I got a feeling some interesting "items" are coming off of that table when its all tuned up.

Have fun.

Got to spend some "quality time" with it this morning.

Kroil and a brass scrub brush confirmed the table has coagulated oil... NOT rust on it!Oo. :DOo.

I cant wait to bolt this back together. :{
