Clean Injectors?

We bought our 98. 5 2500 when it had 27k miles on it. It now has around 53k and I've never used a fuel additive. After speaking with Bill at DTT, I realize this was a little foolish, I simply didn't know, although I should of with this great resource.

My question is, I'm sure there is carbon buildup on my injectors, instead of just using a fuel injector cleaner in the tank, can I manually pull the injectors, clean them and get a good start?

Or, will running the injector cleaner do just as good a job as cleaning them by hand?

Cummins sells an injector cleaner (Can't remember the name of it, Black bottle/Red label) that you buy in a gallon jug, and run directly into the engine. It is made to clean injectors. You can use the stuff as an additive and it will clean and keep clean the injectors. If you don't have a problem with the way the truck is running, I don't think I would pull the injectors to clean them. Start using an additive that will do the job.

Hi Alan,

I'm having a problem with the torque converter "shuddering" under load at around 1600-2000 rpm. Bill K. told me I should change the ATF, run some additive and make sure the DDTM is working right. So, the injector cleaner will take care of the job... I'll see if the dealer has it in stock. Thanks.
