Fuel Treatments

I feel relieved!!!

Would used hydraulic oil ( filtered of course ) approx. 6 months old, mixed at ,say 10%-20% work in a CTD ? I have come across an unlimited supply and want to know if this would mix and burn correctly. Im allready burning it in a garage heater with good results.

Good subject for Alternate Fuels forum. About what viscosity is it? I'd to 10% max to begin with to see how it goes. I burned a bunch of free mineral oil in my 96 at about 10% per tank.

Dont know exactly, but has the weight and appearance of 5 weight, so its thin. I do know thats its mobil velocite 6 and the rest is mobil DTE. Luckily, it is run thro several filters before it exits, similar to a car filter. Might be something to consider with the cost at the pump.

Hydraulic oil is usually a 5 or 10 weight oil... usually pretty thin.

As long as it burns in a WO burner, it should run fine. I'd start with low concentrations and slowly increase...

DTE is generally a turbine oil, both it and the Velocite have low flash points and should burn pretty good, especially if the DTE is the light grade.

The 55 gal. drums of DTE we get seems very light. We also have something else called vacuoline by mobile . If all goes well with using it in the CTD, I may even consider runing it in the house furnance.

If 12V engines do OK with 50-50 blends of diesel and veggie oil... and they do... then it certainly can't be any worse to run that stuff. As the other guys already advised, start with a 10-20% blend and go from there. I'd bet dollars to donuts you'll be just fine.

Make sure to use magnets on the filter. Won't catch brass or aluminum, but the rest of it.

One of the guys I work with used to work a a plant that makes LP cylinders. They had several 660 ton presses. They don't change the oil. A company that they use, has a self contained setup on there, that cleans the oil, remove any water, and adds the necessary additives back in. All while the machine is in use. Don't remember how many hundreds of gallons they take.

no smoke

The FDA requires that I follow Mp2 requirements and we are forced to change out all machines (approx ) every 6 months. Heck, Im not paying for it! I threw a five ball in a full tank tonite and let it warm up. Smells a lot different, but hardly much smoke.
