Makes me wonder if when the grid heater is on, if it is burning that oil off and leaving coke dust to be sucked in to the cylinders.
grid heater & oil??? don't understand.
CCV filter top of head, has tube coming out of it on the top passenger side of valve cover, runs down to input side of intercooler, this would be only source of oil into intake, IF some oil vapor gets through all that then gets to grid heater,,,hmmm,,,would be a problem vs EGR & its variable constant stream of particles going into the intake. me thinks egr would be the bigger culprit of what you see on the grid heater.
no codes because- that might be J35? IMO a great deal of the flashes just up'ed the parameters to avoid the CELs. eg. if a parameter of 5 set off a CEL, lets change that parameter to 15.
Have cleaned that sensor a couple of times on my '08, 1st time couldn't even see light through the openings.
SIDENOTE: for better exhaust brake performance clean the stainless steel tube that runs from the back of exhaust manifold up to a sensor on passenger side, front of engine bay, top, near the radiator. there is a pinhole to that sensor that gets clogged too.
The MAP is in the intake horn before the grids, right?
It's getting the oily vapor (fuel soot) from the EGR. That's what I'm talking about. That stuff I cleaned off mine was black. I'm thinking since is from the unburned fuel, it will coke like any other oil base that is overheated. Don't know. Just thinking.
Funny you mention the exhaust brake, few times lately that didn't work right either, soon as the hurricane passes I'll check that tube you mention.
BTW - I think post cleaning the MAP sensor I picked up like 0. 2mpg according to the overhead.
used map sensor cleaner for that sensor, and mechanics pick or piece of wire for the little hole going to it from the tubing. for the tubing used brake cleaner & air compressor.
According to Alldata it's a combo IAT/MAP sensor.
I pulled my intake off and milled the grid heaters out and enlarged the port on the manifold to match, and there was a LOT of carbon all through it. I used 12 cans of throttle body cleaner on it.
