I installed an Oil Guard bypass filter this weekend. I've got nothing against Amsoil but I could not see spending $29 for replacment filters (Amsoil web price) when I can buy the Oil Guard replacement elements for $8. Anyway, I had about 1800 miles on the oil (moderately dark) and after only 100 miles (I did not change the oil; I merely added 1 quart) the oil looks as if I've just done an oil change :) :) . I'm planning to go 15,000 miles on the Delo 400 between oil changes. Oil Guard guarantees that you can safely double the manufacturer's recommended interval with their filters.

I'm going to make up an Adobe file with pictures for my brother. If anyone is interested, e-mail me and I'll send it to you.

The oil Guard filters are just an element, thats why they are so cheap. The Amsoil filters are self contained, that is why they more expensive. When you change them, you just throw them away and your done, the Oil Guard setup requires draining and cleaning the housing or else all the sedimant will end up in the new filter or your engine. Secondly, you generally dont change a bypass filter for at least 20k miles. Usually longer, so i dont see the $26. 00 i am paying for an Amsoil as a lot of money every 20k miles or once a year. Just my 2c
