Looks like it's time to clean the filter . How long does it take for the AEF 7 to dry and what do you do while it is drying? Can't drive it wet or without one :rolleyes:
 
Buy an extra filter or put it next to a fan or vent in the home.

I usually stick my wet filters on top of the dehumdifier and they are bone dry over night.
 
I bought another filter so that I don't have to rush the drying and oiling time. I'm not sure but I would think it takes a day to dry and I like to let the oil soak in and fill all the voids.

I cleaned my afe this last weekend. I parked the truck for the night and pulled the filter at about 6pm. Spraying and rinsing the filter in the kitchen sink took about 20 minutes. It was a fairly dry day with about 35% relative humidity. I let the filter sit in the kitchen on some newspaper. The next morning at about 6am the filter seemed dry so I sprayed it with the oil. After the 20 minute wait I checked the filter and found a few white spots so I touched up the spot with more oil. By 7am I had my truck ready to roll. I was surprized to find that I still had about 2/3 of the oil and cleaning fluid left so I guess I will get three clean ups out of one kit.

Which kit are you using? Synopsis here is the aFe kits are no good. Switch over to the K&N cleaner kit and see how much more crap you get out of the filter!! :eek:

I used an aFe kit on the aFe filter and found it to work just fine. I have a K&N filter on my Jeep Wrangler and I cleaned it about two week ago. The K&N cleaner might work slightly better on cutting the oil. The oil in the K&N has a red dye in it and makes a better contrast as to what is clean and what is oiled.



The aFe oil has a yellow tint and the media seems thicker. I do use the aFe "rain jacket" so much of the larger crap and bugs never get to the filter media. After cleaning the filter I put a flashlight in the filter and checked each rib for dirt and found them clean. Make sure that you let the filter sit for about 20 minutes after you soak the filter with the cleaner. Then use normal water pressure from the inside of the filter to wash the crude out of the filter. I used the kitchen sink spray hose along with fairly hot water.



The K&N system does not meet the minimum filtering requirements for our trucks so I would be afraid to use it on the ctd. My son who lives in Bozeman had an interesting conversation at the pumps in a gas station. He started a conversation with an owner of a ctd asking him how he liked his truck. The fellow said he liked it a lot and just got it back from the dealer for a complete engine replacement. He said they covered it under warranty even though it was caused by dirt that was sucked by a K&N aftermarket system. He had less then 30,000 miles on his rig. I think he was vary lucky that dc paid for his motor.



I will keep my aFe system all aFe.
