Cleaning oil spots from concrete AND Asphalt?

I need to clean some oil spots from both a concrete driveway AND the asphalt pavement in front of my house (other people's leaks, LOL).

I have pretty good luck on concrete with a variety of cleaners, but am open to any new suggestions there too. My real issue is the asphalt, is there any way to clean asphalt WITHOUT also dissolving the tar in the pavement?

The easiest way to make the oil/diesel spills go away, first scrub with cleaner (I like the stuff that is one step above Simple Green, called Mean Green, made by the same people. Use it straight with a stiff brush and hose residue off, then dust with straight Portland Cement after it is almost dry. The asphalt will look pretty good after several days. The cement will look good as soon as you are done. DO NOT SWEEP UP THE PORTLAND CEMENT you put down - - just let it lay there

Hope this helps,

Denny

For concrete, I like brake parts cleaners in a spray can from an auto parts store. I spray the spot and wipe it away.

I wouldn't use it on asphalt though. I don't have any good ideas for that.

Thanks for the ideas, I also like the brake parts cleaner on concrete. I also use a product from Griot's Garage, seems to work good, at least on the light stains I have used it on. I also use the cat litter, was just wondering if I was missing any products, especially for the asphalt.

On concrete, soak liberally with mineral spirits, then cover with oil dry or kitty litter, let stand awhile, and sweep up. Put oil dry in a container that is open, ( like a small trash can ), it will dry out and can be re-used.
