Working on a old Dodge W-300. The gas tanks had some bad gas and rust inside. Got rid of the gas and now am cleaning them out. Hot tanks are not legal any more where I live so I'm on my own. Got rid of most of the rust by putting some B-B's inside and driving around with the tanks in the bed of my truck. Then used air to blow out the dirt. Now I want to use some chemical to clean the rest of the rust out before I coat the insides. Any body know what I can use to get rid of the rust?

I use "The Works" to remove iron residue/rust off my dump truck. Everyone told me that the stuff would not come off. I sprayed it on with a garden sprayer... The stuff just ran off. looked like new

Try it (the works) be careful of the odors though. and don't let it get on bare skin. It burns like He77.

JC Whitney sells a 3 part gas tank treatment system that cleans preps, and coats a tank. Works great, sorry I don't have a part number. The way I always do the initial cleaning is to chain the tank to tractor tire, jack the rear and idle it in low gear with a couple handfuls of gravel inside. Also works good for sloshing the treatment around, but of course you need a tractor.
