My wife came home the other day carrying a new product from Black and Decker called the Scum Buster. It's a battery powered scrubber. I laughed, called it useless and a few other unprintable names, and never thought any more about it - - - until today when I had to clean the windshield from 1400 miles of running in the rain, ain't laughing anymore! I put a pretty good slug of Dawn liquid in a bowl with a little water, and using the brush attachment, it did an outstanding job of getting the road film off. Took about 10 minutes to do a top job.

If you are looking for a small gift "to make you wifes life easier" - this is it, just don't tell her what your gonna' do with it. ;) ;) ;)

oops! i don't have anything to do with Black and Decker, but wish i owned the patent on this!

Denny,

Try sprinkling some "Bartenders Helper" and water on the windsheild then use the machine (instead of dawn).

Joe - - Tried that first, but couldn't get the white stuff out of the pits (105k miles and need a new windsield but want to wait 'til spring!) Used the Dawn to get the BH off and did good. May have be the combination.

Thanks - Denny

Got...

a free sample of Rainex with some Simple Green. Tried it on one side of the windshield. I am now a true believer. It really does keep crap off your windshield, if it's wet. Probably a very under-rated or under-tried product. No, I don't sell it, or own stock in the company. Good stuff!

You can always use acetone. It gets EVERYTHING off! Just don't let it touch the plastic... :D

Don't use windex. It streaks bad and you can never get the streaks off. Rain-X/Simple Green combo works great.

Rain X

I'll second the vote on RainX !! I use it on all my vehicles. On a long trip the action of the windshield wipers can make you want to fall to sleep. At speed the rain x just lets the water fly off the windshield. This is one product that does exactly what it advertizes

I also use it on the side windows and mirrors, does the same thing there.

Also found that bugs tend to stick less and are easier to get off.

I am a rain-x user too. but, befor you treat it get some rain-x 'glass polish and use it once a year. Man does that stuff clean and polish the glass. It will also hide some small scratches and the rub marks that wipers leave sometimes.

I vote for rain-X too. It is simply unbelievable. I used it the first time about a month ago and then got caught in a Ca. winter storm on Interstate 10. When it started raining heavily I had trouble believing my eyes, because my ears were telling me a LOT of rain was beating down on me, but the windshield didn't look at all wet. All I saw was a LOT of tiny, tiny pin-points of water, about the size of a pencil-point. It was almost as if the rain was hitting everything EXCEPT the windshield. Since that was impossible I had to conclude that Rain-X is one heck of a product. I too, have nothing to do with whatever company sells the stuff. But I do use it.

I have been using the Rain-X for several years, its one product that does what they say. Seeing is believing, I agree with the other posts above.

I bought the scumbuster for my wife a few years ago... she doesn't like it. I tried to make things easier for her. . go figure.

After is sat around for a while I tried it one day with one of the other brushes that have the brisstles coming straight out like a round paint brush for cleaning the stock wheels and lug nut caps. .

Works great for getting into the knooks and grannies... on the lug nut caps.

I just a go around with trying to get some crap off of my windows. . found that best cleaner was the Rainx window cleaner and polish. . best thing with out using a machine. But there were the water spots on the side QC windows I still cant get off.

I saw this in Maxim Magazine:

What's worse than waking up early and having to scrape off your car's windshield in the freezing cold? Nothing.

But coating your car windows with a solution of three parts white or cider vinegar to one part water is guaranteed to keep the glass ice-free.

I like rainex but

If it's not raining hard enough,or if youre not moving fast enough, it's more of a problem than a help. The wipers jump when it's misting out.

In heavy rain and high speeds it's great.
