Clear flim to protect paint?

Thinking of trying it for the front of the fenders and the painted parts on the front of truck. Anyone installed it and what do you think? How spendy is it? Thanks, tired of the way the paint chips soooo easy. Doc

Hi Doc,



I had the clear stonegard paint protection put on by a shop that specializes in accessorizing vehicles (clear plastic film). I have the sport package. The clear film covers the painted areas of the grill, front bumper, 8" band across the front of the hood, the A-pillars, headlights, fog lights, 4" strip across the top of the cab, front 6" of the dually fenders and the full length of the rocker panels. I have about 11,000miles now and now chips where the clear film is applied. I do have chips in a few other spots already. I think it does a good job but was expensive. I paid $800 and was told when I picked up the vehicle that they did not realize how big it was and should have charged $1200. They did stand by their price of $800 though. It would be a lot cheaper if you only did a few spots on the truck. The product is barely visible when the vehicle is clean. The product is applied and on the truck in all the pictures in my reader's gallery. You probably won't be able to see it though.

Ive had it on my rocker panels since the truck was new. No stone chips yet, and I live on a gravel road.

Doc- I just received my latest Cabela's cataloge and they offer the clear film in 12' x 6" rolls @ $20 a roll. I am going to go for it on the rear fenders. They claim in the description once installed it is "nearly invisible" ( sounds like "a little pregnant" to me. . either you are or you arent), but I digress... anything there will look better than the paint chips..... good luck-

Clear Film!

I have put "Ground Effects" on the last two 3500's I have and plan to get the 3M film installed on this one. I am also tried of the paint chips, but like the way the "Ground Effects" make the truck look. I plan to get it applied to the flares on the DRW's where the rocks chip the ground effects.

I had the 3M paint protection film installed on the rocker panel as well as the front of the hood and fronts of the fenders just behind the head lamp assembly. The also have a much thicker type of film that helps protect the FOG lamps.



Film was installed by UltraShield of Phoenix rigth at my home.

I have the headlight and fog lights covered, also from the door guard down to the pinch seam covered. It works awsome and also makes removing tar a breeze...
