2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Clearcoat revisited

Yeah I know this has been covered, and we all know DC needs to a few lessons on paint. Has anyone gone the route of just redoing the clearcoat without touching the paint? My paint is actually in pretty good shape, I have a few nicks and dings, I could touch those up. But my clearcoat on the hood especially and roof is milky splotchy and crappy! I would like to have it redone but don't know if its worth it.

My paint guy said you need a full job. I had some minor dings out and then a full repaint and it ran $2500. Mucho dinero I know but it's much better than the DC job and the newer clearcoat is supposed to hold up much better.
