clearence lights

I want to get some clearance lights but am kind of hesitant to drill hole in a perfectly good roof. I have done some reading and found that most of the people on TDR have not had a problem with them. Does anyone know the part number from Dodge that i will need as well as harnesses relay and template. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also the Part number to the Tailgate lights to.

I have roof clearance lights and no I have never had aprobalem, And I don't ever recall hearing of a probalem. Mine came factory, and I would recomend going to your nearest dealer and getting the part numbers, that you would need. Then with them in hand, do a little pokeing around on the web for prices. There are some aftermarket lights that I have seen, but they look like an after thought.

I am also interested in adding these to my truck. I know at the factory sometimes they put extra wiring in for options even when they aren't ordered, would there be any of the wiring already in place for these lights?

I put a set in my 03 this summer. I posted a thread about it titled "headliner removal", or something like that.



The whole process wasn't really difficult anthough there were no wires already there to help me out. The lights and loom were in the kit along with instructions telling which wire to tap into for power.



I too would like to know the pat number of the kit for teh second gen trucks. I have a couple friends with a 96 and a 98 that are interested. Thanks.

Bought my kit from the local dealer about a year ago. It had everything - all parts, wiring harness, good instructions and the drilling template. I think it was about $80, give or take. (Should have ordered them with the truck - it was a $65 option!) I can't say I didn't feel a tad queasy about drilling those 15 holes into a perfectly good roof, but it all went together perfectly, continues to look great and has never given me a problem. The hardest part was twisting my wrist around under the dash to get to the connector block. It took me about an hour of pain and several cuts before I got to it, but once I had it out, I had everything buttoned up and done in about five minutes.



As a nice complement to that, I added the tailgate lights, too. Had to buy the wiring harness and the light assembly separately. It came to about another $50-60, I think. But I bought the actual lights from NAPA for under $2 each. I've been really happy with the whole set-up.

By dealer are you saying that the kit is OEM? If so what was the part number?! I'd like to get this kit for the clearance lights.

The hardest part was twisting my wrist around under the dash to get to the connector block. It took me about an hour of pain and several cuts before I got to it, but once I had it out, I had everything buttoned up and done in about five minutes.

My advice to anyone wanting to work inside/behind the dash of one of the second gen trucks is to drop the dash and/or remove it from the truck completely. It took my wife and I all of 20 minutes to completely remove the burned dash and related components out of my '94.



Believe it or not, after you drop the column onto the seat, there are only about 10 bolts holding the dash in and then about eight wiring connections to unplug. The hardest part was disconnecting the heater control cable from the heater box and if you're removing it from the vehicle, removing the plastic from the column and disconnecting the three electrical connections up there (Chrysler did NOT make that easy... all the connections are at the TOP of the column instead of the bottom... #@$%! ).



Feel free to PM me if anyone has any questions about removing the dash. I stripped two trucks and rebuilt one so I'm pretty good at it now... LOL

I too wanted the lights from the facotry, but didn't get them. My wife ordered the light kit for a gift (think she paid about $80 plus shipping). I went to a local recommended custom auto trim shop. I was terrified they would destroy the roof, but they did an EXCELLENT job. They charged $100 to put them in (money well spent), where the dealer wanted $200.



No problems to date. They look goooood, I'd recommend going ahead and doing it.

curatchko, I saw your inquiry first thing this morning, but didn't want to respond until I could dig up my receipt with the part numbers. The cab light kit was $79. 00, part #82205120.



If you're interested in the tailgate set, it comes in two pieces, plus the lamps themselves*. The lamp holder was $19. 36, part #55054823. The wire harness was $41. 36, Part #55054824.



All these prices were October 3rd last year. I bought them from the local Dodge dealer in Olathe, KS. If I remember correctly, I had to order them, but it only took a couple days for them to get in.



*I've heard (on this web site - thanks for the TDR and the great advice ya get here!) the lamps from Dodge are outrageous. Go to NAPA and pick up some standard snap-in lamps - they're under two bucks apiece and you'll need, of course, three.

I got mine from Mopar4Less, which is actually in Farmington N. M.

Great service IF you call them. They evidently don't have the manpower to answer e-mails asking about pricing.



I got the clearance lights for $10 or so less than the normal dealer would charge, and installed them a year and a half ago and have had no problems.



I've ordered many items from Mopar4Less, and I have been very pleased with their service and prices BUT as I say, call them, don't e-mail them.

I have a new (in the box) kit from Mopar that is P/N 82205120. I'm not going to use them because they are the older style lights, and I'm looking for the ones used on a '01 that are flatter and square. If anybody's interested, I'll sell the kit for $60. Had it sitting around collecting dust for over a year

I purchased my truck in 1992 it came with the factory clearance lights and to date no problems at all.
