Internet Slowdowns. . .

Addition to the FAQ

(or if your browser does not automatically forward you) does this link even do anything? Back with the old server it used to take you a thread you posted to fast, now it doesn't seem to do anything.

Yes, that is a link to the thread - if you point your mouse at it and look down at the status bar you'll see the link. If it doesn't do anything when you click on it it's because there's a slowdown somewhere getting to the site. I fully expect that we will continue to have performance problems until the move. Nothing the current co-lo facility has said makes me think they are taking the problem seriously nor trying to work on it. There's really nothing I can do about it - I've complained until I was blue in the face. We'll just have to put up with it until next week :( . Sorry.

No problem Steve, but I don't think it's anything related to the site's performance. Seemed like before the new servers clicking if you don't want to wait skipped a step or something, the page loaded much faster. This is something I noticed long ago but have just gotten around to asking about.

It probably has to do with the search word size and the number of posts on the system. When we put the new servers in (almost a year ago btw) we changed the search word size at the same time to 3 characters from 4 and also brought back all of the archived posts that we'd deleted off. That made the databases much larger than they were before (going to 3 character searches from 4 doubled the size of that database). There's nothing that's skipped by the click on this . . . . .

Also, I have refreshed it many times, no difference.
