I'm hearing a clicking noise when I shut off the engine. Doesn't do it everytime, maybe just after the harder runs. Sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the engine. Anybody else hearing this or know what it is?

not sure

I am not sure of your intrepretation of the word "click", however I have heard a "click" after shutdown and assumed it to be oil dripping back into the pan. I heard the same noise during oil changes when I filled it back up.

Since you say you mostly hear it "just after the harder runs", my guess is that you're hearing engine parts cooling off. I've heard that sound on lots of different engines.

If that is the case, my guess is also that you're not idling the truck to cool down the turbo after those "harder runs".

I'm just making the assumption that it might only be after harder runs, but I have also heard it after normal interstate driving, not just hot rodding it. I have never shut the truck down higher than 300 degrees, pre-turbo.

The click I'm hearing doesn't really sound like oil dropping in the pan. From listening with the hood up, it sounds like its something near the front (close to bumper) of the block. Heard it yesterday and seemed like it took 30-40 seconds to stop clicking after shutdown.

Thanks for the repsonse. Just trying to make sure its not a big deal.

When I was talking to a service tech last week he mentioned that the new fuel injectors are electronically charged and when they discharge you will hear a clicking sound. He stated the engine does not need to be running for this to occur and when you turn the engine off some will have been charging up and will still need to discharge even though the engine has been shut down. He stated that you will also hear it before engine startup after the key has been turned on. I had told him that I was under the impression the sound pre-startup I was hearing was the fuel pump but he stated that the fuel injectors were the cause of the clicking sound I was hearing. Don't know if this is the same sound you are hearing so FWIW.

Rbattelle,

No Cat. 4" all the way with Walker muffler.

CRumsey,

That sounds like a good explanation to me. I just wonder if putting the TST box on made it louder because I didn't seem to notice it without the box, but at that time the truck only had 4k miles on it. I think your explanation is probably what I'm hearing, because it seems like I hear where the injectors are.

Really appreciate the responses.
