there is a clicking noise coming from the rear of the transfer case on my 2005. i have checked the u joints and they r good on both front and rear drive shafts. the noise sounds like its coming from the tail shaft. is there a bearing or some thing that can be changed in there? it is also causing a vibration at high speeds. i topped off the fluid in the transfer it was only about 1 cup low. any help is greatly appreciated

i found that there is a bushing and a seal but they are both good. no lift or recent alignment. thinking maybe a u joint but they look good and i cant get them to move by hand

DogramTD,

I agree SBs don't have a carrier bearing, but the LBs do. I didn't notice which he had. Intersting problem.

Once I troublshot a slight squeel under my Toyota 4X4. I jacked it up and placed both axles on jack stands, got a stethescope with an extended tubing so I didn't need to get under the vehicle with it in drive running. I taped the stethescope to the xfer case, then the carrier bearing. It was the carrier bearing. You may want to try this. Warning: use high quality jack stands, keep everyone away and keep path in front of vehicle clear.

Just a thought.
