I have a 2006 Mega Cab 2500 6 spd 4x4 with ~15,500 miles. I've had a poping/clicking in the steering column for the past 12 months. No problem for the 1st 6 months of ownership then started to get a consistent poping/clicking when you turned the steering wheel from the left to the right slightly in either direction. The dealer retorqued the intermediate shaft which reduced the issues causeing it to only occur after the truck sat for about 10 minutes. The issue is more noticeable in colder weather. Once the pop occurs 2 or 3 times it is gone until you let the truck sit for 10 - 15 minutes.
Note: You can hear the noise and feel the vibration in the pedals.
I've had the truck to 3 separate dealers in 2 states. So far I've had the steering box, intermediate shaft, and steering column replaced. I've also had the tie rod and tie rod end replaced (all under warranty). My 2001 4x4 6 spd Quad cab had a very similar issue that was corrected by a steering column replacement.
This past weekend after the last visit to the dealer I got under the dash, started the truck and turned the wheel as I held onto the steering shaft. You could feel the vibration coming from the other side of the fire wall. What else can we replace? Could I have a second bad steering column?
Also have (2) calls (open case files) with the customer support hot line @ Chrysler will little success to date.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Any suggestions?
