2015 Ram 3500 DWR Laramie. My Heating & AC are not working. No Fan nothing. The only code posted is
U0164-00 Lost communication with Telematics Gateway. Currently 2 different shops have looked at this issue. The conclusion was replace the climate control module. RAM wanted a $900.00 for this part. Found a brand new one elsewhere. This did not fix the issue. I'm a month out from getting it into an electrical specialist. Fuses Relays check. Also new batteries. Does anyone have any idea what maybe causing this. Or know how to turn the climate controls back on.

TIA
Greg

2 things pop up on that code. They are pasted below....

My guess is they checked the basics and the power, wiring, grounds, and canbus on this exact module.

Since you swapped the part it could be wiring.

In the one item pasted below it mentions the Canbus being Open on the +/-, if that's the case could be a wiring issue there are some basic checks for the can bus voltage and resistance. If open would be like a broken wire somewhere.

Comparing the other modules on the certain bus could lead to a certain area where something works then others do not.

Was any other work done to the truck recently, remove any panels, add any devices anywhere? Start there looking for wiring issues.

I did notice some notes about disabling the airbags since the module appears to be behind the glovebox.

Then the PDF (17) is a basic starting point for a communication issue, and PDF (18) is the no comms to an ECU.

The connector pin out is attached as well.

Seems above my pay grade at times with this one. But some basic checks might apply.

Tread lightly with old school tools on some of these circuits.

Thank you for the information. It is a big help. Gave me a lot to think about

Was the new module installed professionally and matched to the Truck through wiTech? It is very likely that this needs to be done.

Also the 2 workshops where RAM dealerships or independent?
I installed the new module myself. I did not have it matched to my truck. I wasn't aware ram was like John Deere. That is a ****ty thing to do for its customers. I will look into it.
Thank You

I don't see the module deal so no help there, but it does need a calibration from what I can see, and that's via scan tool.

Not super familiar with the process just sharing what's in the system we use.

It can run you in circles at times with these procedures.

If you installed a new module, it shouldn't need to be programmed. A used module more than likely still would work, but you might have a VIN mismatch fault code.
If you want to check the bus voltage at the module it should be 2.4 volts bus minus and 2.5 volts bus positive
