I wanted to share the symptoms I had with a clogged fuel filter in the hopes it might help somebody. A weekend of searching showed me that fuel supply issues are really hard to diagnose and the common approach is to start replacing and cleaning the stuff that is the cheapest on up. I couldn't agree more.

Some time about a week ago, I started noticing low power at 30-40mph plus. I couldn't get the truck above 2K RPM for any length of time above this speed. I mean I could goose it, and it would shoot up to about 2200 or 2300 then drop back down immediately to 1800. Also, I could not pull any kind grade above 40 mph from a stand still, the auto wouldn't downshift and I had to get a running start to maintain 60 mph up grades, generally loosing 5 to 10 mph going up the hill.

With the help of the people here, I checked the AFC hose, and it was good. After that I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the strainer under the fuel heater. The fuel filter was a real mess and the screen on the strainer was clear, but there were steel filings, maybe about enough to cover my little finger nail in the bowl. When I put it back together, bled the system of air and took it for a spin I was amazed at how well the truck performed :D . It's just a stocker mainly, so I can understand the enthusiasm you guys have, but I must control myself. Who knows, maybe a 3K spring kit in the future?

Sure hate to mess with it though, as I originally thought the 47RE was going and the money aspect of that was all too scary. Thank rraush for all the help with that.

Hope this helps someone.
