No Doc, the people in the religions are though.

Evolution is proven by the deeds of man. If we were created in one fell swoop such as the bible teaches, we would have had a CTD within a week after!:D :D :D

I have a religious friend he knows my views I know his and I feel that he was saved from certain self destruction by the church he serves. the church became his crutch instead of the drugs etc. was this a good thing Yes it was for sure no doubt. everything in moderation they say. you can believe in evolution and still believe there is a supreme being. I can anyway. life the incredible Journey!!

For years Evolution has taught that the Earth took billions of years to develop and have used the layers in the Earths crust as an example. They claim that layers have been continually piling on top of each other to form the earths sedimentary rock layers. As the Earths surface erodes away, fossils begin to appear. These fossils are animals or plants that lived during the time of that particular layer of sediment. Here is where the problem arises - fossils in the wrong evolutionary order. Precambrian rock(before life supposedly started to evolve) containing fossils. There are fossils misplaced by over 100 million years according to evolutionary time lines.

Another big problem that evolutionists can not explain is fossils upright in the layers. Hundreds of thousands of years of layers with a fossil in the upright position through the layers. You would think if an tree was getting slowly buried it would have rotted away over that period of time. I have read the evolutionists explanation about that but there are still problems in their explanation. It does not explain the trees buried upside down and it does not explain how they got buried through layers of coal deposits and are virtually intact (not rotten).

The only logical explanation is a worldwide catastrophic flood.

Most geologists agree there have been several worldwide catastrophic floods. Almost every culture on Earth has stories about it.

In fact the spot that I'm sitting in right now was 400 feet underwater just 12,000 years ago. A short hike into the foothills and the old shoreline is readily evident. Most all of eastern Washington is evidence of what happened when this 1000 square mile lake cut loose and drained in a matter of days.

Yes this Planet we live on is always evolving as we evolve and adapt to the sublte at times and drastic at times changes. there will be I am convinced a earth disaster that will or could possibly destroy our comfy paridise. I have land on lake ontario and it has lots of interesting layers of limestone. Alot of New york State was underwater at some point in time in Geological history. Science can prove this.

Believe what you want, there is only one way.

I respectfully differ. Whether or not you want what God has offered or promised, whether or not you believe there is even a deity who could make such an offer, you *will* receive it in the end.

YES. STRING THEM UP.

Do you react the same when the Isreali Army shells civilian neighborhoods in Palestinian villages?

NO. THE IDIOT PALESTINIANS HAVE IT COMING AFTER BLOWING UP YET ANOTHER SCHOOL BUS, SHOPPING MALL, ETC.

Do you react the same when the KKK or Arian Nation beat or kill non-whites?

YES, STRING THEM UP.

It appears to me that the world wide lack of tolerance is the real problem. If everyone really followed the teachings of their religion, what ever it is, there would be far more tolerance in the world.

Organized religion worries me. If you have to build a 10 million dollar church to be closer to your god, there is a problem there, I think.

Religion is all based on control. The people in charge need the control to get your money, to sustain their lifestyle.

They are quite succesful at it.

Bill & Ted had it right.

Be excellent to each other.

PARTY ON!

Maybe one of the bible thumpers here can help me with some questions that have been bothering me.

1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord -- Lev. 1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness -- Lev. 15:19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. ! Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination -- Lev. 11:10-- it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev. 24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know some of you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Uh-oh.....

What is the penalty for #3?

Seriously though, illflem is just scratching the surface here, I would think anyone who could still think on there own would take a step back and look at that sort of thing. I don't care if it was 2000 years ago, it would have been just as wrong then, as it is now, to get stoned.

I feel that any of you who choose not to believe in Jesus Christ have the right to do so. Why do you have to make fun of those of us who choose to believe? Someday everyone of us will be judged on what beliefs we had while we were on the earth. If you feel comfortable in what you are saying here on this board, more power to you, I feel just as comfortable in what I believe in my heart. We can't change anyones' beliefs, only the person can do it for themselves.

Illflem,

Unless you are an Orthodox Jew, those commandments in the Old Testament don't apply to you. You will notice throughout the Old Testament the common thread of "Us vs. Them", and if you aren't a Jew, that is a descendant of the tribe of Israel, in Old Testament lingo you are indeed a Them - aka "a Gentile".

Many of those prohibitions are the topic of hot debate amongst the Orthodox Jewish folk, that is why the rabbis have developed bazillions of additional laws and clarifications to guide just about every aspect of their lives. To this day, if you are around Orthodox folk you will find the devout men won't shake hands with or even touch a woman due to one of the prohibitions you describe. The discussion of slavery being OK if the slaves come from "surrounding nations" as you put it, as I understand it means it was OK as long as the slaves were not Jewish. In fact, the Old Testament law gave them carte blanche to do just about whatever they wanted to Gentiles.

Jesus Christ came along and shattered much of the Jewish orthodoxy when He said that Gentiles (that is, you and me) were God's children too. This didn't go over real big with the religious authorities of the time, so they had Him killed.

I am confused by the direction this thread has taken. Apparently many of you feel that followers of Jesus commit horrible crimes by making people feel bad about their actions or themselves. If only He had taught the more sensitive approach that Mohammad advocated, which results in jihad, death, and bloodshed on a worldwide scale.

"Golly Dad, they said on the news that Muslim terrorists came across the border with a nuclear bomb. Should we be worried?"

"Of course not, son, gimme a break! But the Christian church folk down the street make people feel bad about drug abuse, drunk driving, and premarital sex. Somebody's gotta stop 'em before feelings get hurt!!!"

I agree with Mike Ellis. He was 100% correct in what he said. Everything Illflem mentioned was all Old Testament, which is not to be disregarded, but to be used as a baseline for what Jesus proved. Jesus told us to follow the laws of the land also. Therefore we can't do what they used to do in the O. T. We as Gentile Humans make mistakes, don't hold that against the one True Perfect Christ, Jesus...

How do you know what Jesus told you. The US constituion is a very important document that has been around for 216 years. It has been amended 27 times. Now the bible is a much more expansive document that has been around alot longer. How many times do you think it has had amendments added or removed to benefit whoever for whatever reason. Basing your faith on a few thousand years of human influence and interpretation is frightening to me.

1. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them.

You must have strange neighbors. Mine like the smell of barbeque.

2. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

6 years wages. They are supposed to release her on the 7th year.

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness

Maybe you have been trying to touch them the wrong way. The woman should inform you, if they don't the fault would be theirs.

4. Why can't I own Canadians?

No problem with that. Remember you have to release them in the 7th year.

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. ! Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

No, that is the government's responsibility. He may be observing the Sabbath on a different day than you.

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination -- Lev. 11:10-- it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

The restrictions on food do not apply to people that are not attempting to achieve rightousness through strict adherence to God's law.

7. I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight.

Like a plank in your eye. You must look at situations fairly and not ignore your own shortcummings.

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden

Only to set them apart from the Gentiles. Not necessary if you are a Gentile or Christian.

9. touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean

See # 6. Plus now we have antibiotics.

10. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them?

You really must want to be a vigilante. God doesn't want us to do that.

As I am sure you already know (and are just ignoring what you know), the rules in Lev. were rules of life given to a very primitive people in a primitive time. You don't have to burn down your house now when you have mold. You just spend $150,000 or so having it remediated. Maybe the old ways were better after all.
