True, but you don't sit on the sides and back. They use vinyl where leather is not needed to keep the cost down. Makes sense.

Yeah it keeps cost down, but not the price. I'll never buy factory leather again, it's a ripoff. I'm pretty sure my leather package was like 1400, not 5k like someone stated above. For 1500 bucks I've seen some excellent leather. The leather in my wifes BMW is leaps and bounds better than the junk in my pickup. Then again, it's a pickup so I'm not really whining that much. For as much as I thrash my truck the leather has held up.

I don't think I've ever "cleaned" it. I just wipe off the crap my kids spill all over it with a rag. I recommend saving the money and getting cloth, then switching over later if you want it that bad. There's a custom car shop that I stopped in at here, they had some VERY nice leather interiors. I didn't ask the price, but it was great stuff. They did mostly custom classic build jobs, very handy folks.

I had a 2002. 5 2500 that was an SLT and I took it to Classic Soft Trim. There was actual leather on the entire seating surface. . not just where your *** sits like the factory ones. Also the leather is thicker and softer. When the leather in my 04. 5 wears out I will have these put back on. Here is a link. I had mine done in St. Louis.

I think the cost was around $1700 installed. That was also with seat heaters.

I had my 06 Megacab done at leatherseats.com. I had seen them online and my job sent me to that same city. I liked the look of it in their shop and had them make a custom set for me. Total cost 1200$, 300$ of that was for the install. I opted for their premium package (all seating surface leather), two colors, Dodge Ram logo. The consoles are all covered too. Most of thier customers are mail order, with user install or user's local apholstry shop istall. They boxed up my premium cloth for me to take home.

I had the local dealer tell me who did thiers since I bought my truck from them, had it done for 1000 bux installed. Looks great. Try that fist. Shop around. My truck is 06 Quad cab they did it all, even folding arm rest storage area.

does anyone have instruction on removing the original seat covers? my leather didnt come with very good instructions. thanks

Here's what I've been reading. I've been trying to decide if it's something I can do on my own, or with very little assistance. This might be what you already have... Just click on the links for the instructions down in the body of the page:

I'd like to know just how hard it is to do yourself. I don't mind tackling projects like this on my own, and would be interested in saving the $$$$ if I thought I could do it without messing it up!

The factory leather is certainly not worth the money and the seats in my 2003 laramie are no where near as comfortable as the seats in my 2001 slt. The leatherette seats in the vw bug feel more like leather than the leather seats in my 2003. For what the laramie option costs you would think that they could do a better job.

I have a 2004. 5 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel that currently has cloth interior, power everything except for pedals and passenger seat.

I want to replace the cloth seats with leather power ones. Is this feasible? I checked ebay but only found a tan pair of seats for sale, I want black. Is the wiring already there for the driver's side power seat? If not, can I get a harness or something for it?

Has anyone done this? Does anyone want cloth seats? haha

I have done this. The plugs are different. Fortunately a friend of mine bought a wrecked truck to build into a race truck so I was fortunate enough to have the donor vehicle there. I was able to swap out the pins to the other connector and go. The seats do bolt in but the wiring is kind of a pain. Also if you want the heated seats using the factory switches be prepared to do a lot of wiring. The factory doesn't leave the plugs there, they actually have a different wire harness for the different options. I had to pull apart basically my whole dash to get the heated seats to work like the factory installed ones.
