No good news yet, Dealer got in the wrong size parts yesterday they claim there are different width's todays part came in and is not large enough in diamiter:rolleyes: . So they have faxed DC to find out the proper part # so they can order the correct washer/shim (depends on who you talk to) No truck for most of a week now it's getting old. :(

Robmints thanks for the link to the Manual I downloaded it and printed up some pages, This download will come in handy for many questions that I will have in the future. Thanks Knute

Alan Reagan You are the winner they took my transmission apart today called me and told me it was missing apart. I asked is it was a thrust washer? All he could do was ask me how I knew. I should have my truck back tomorrow YEA!

Thanks Knute

Glad I could help. The post after yours asked about the effect. The tech told me when the rod/shaft the washer is had created evidence marks but that he found no shavings in the pan or filter that he could see. I would imagine the way mine was clunking on the downshift that you might see some early U-Joint failures. They replaced my drive shaft while it was in because after the thrust washer it had a clink in the shaft. Go figure.

Where to start IT"S A NIGHTMARE! Went to see the dealer this morning talked to the tech He told me that in 06 only one thrust washer was listed (confirmed by DC today) but that washer is to thin for the tolerances given. We looked up ealier 48RE's (04-05) and yes they have several differant widths so they ordered a couple sizes to get one to fit. We both looked at the sufaces and did not show any signs of distress only the thrust bearing was a little sharp on the very edges (new one in a box ready to go). The 06 washer was . 004 to thin he said it might work and I could have the truck back today and if it still thumped we could change it out for another washer next week. I said OK I miss my truck. I call this afternoon to see if its done Nope it was not going back in right, they took the complete OD unit apart the clutch pack is burnt:eek: So now they are rebuilding the whole OD unit, I'm glad I had them put it back together today this might have waited until next week to be discovered.

Alann thanks for letting know there might be other issues to look for JV if your truck is still under waranty I'd say take it in I'll keep you informed 06 7000 miles Knute

teamfish,

Thanks for the info and advice. I think I'll have them take a look at it before summer and vacations come in. Hope you have better luck with the dealer and parts.

Mine was also doing that funny shifting thing where it would go back and forth between 2nd and 3rd. The tech turned up the pressure a little while he was in there and cured the problem.

Good News I got my truck back today I was able to read the tech's notes and go back and talk to him after I got my keys. I have only driven it home so far so good but it was almost all freeway driving. Seems kind of strange not to feel the bump. The only way that they found the burnt clutche's was that the splines had moved and they had to take the 800 pound spring and the clutche's out to get the alignment tool in.

I brought it home and started to put my Pacbrake in all I have left is the wiring harness, I can't wait. I'll let you know if I come into other problems

Thanks for your help. Knute
