When I back up and apply the brakes for the first time, I heear and feel a clunk. Only happens one time till you drive forward and stop again, then if you back up it will make the sound again. Any ideas??

If I back up and get rolling put the truck in neutral and apply the brakes I get the same clunk. I have checked all lift kit bolts, U-joints, lug nuts. Im scratching my head on this one.

No anti-rattle clips on the brake pads. Mine has them, but I wonder if they've done away with them for 2006 (to save money)?

I know a couple guys that had a similar problem. One of them was ball joints and the other was too much gear backlash. What you could try is to get underneath and have a buddy kinda push it back and forth. Other than that, I have no idea.

I will crawl around again today. Seems to be getting worse. My friend says it sounds like im running over a small child.

It sounds like brake pad chuck. :--)

When you drive forward and apply the brake it moves the pad up. When you apply the brake in reverse it moves the pad down.

To test this theory. Run it forward stop, run it backward and stop.

Then run it backwards again without moving forward and stop. See if it still makes the noise. If not, I would check my brake pads for excessive movement. .

JCarrier,

My 05 did the same thing and turned out to be the lower control arms. They were not torqued properly from the factory (where they bolt to the axle) and would only go "clunk" when I was backing down the boat ramp to launch my airboat. Took the dealer about an hour to figure out what was going on. R&R'ed the lower control arms, torqued properly and everything id fine. . Hope this helps. .

Thanks for all the help. I have been trying to find the time to tell you all that I found the problem, like stated above the lower links were loose after the alignment. Problem solved. Thanks again. .
