I have a clunk that you can feel and hear when I apply the brakes. Light braking yields nothing, but harder braking you get a clunk. It doesn't seem to happen any other time. It just started a few days ago, and the only thing that changed is that I got new tires put on. Nothing else was touched. The brake pads are about 15-20k old. Overall I'm almost at 70k. Anyone else run into this?

If not the jack, check the caliper adapter bolts. If they're tight, check the condition of the anti-rattle clips attached to the ends of the pads.

Shouldn't be the jack as they use their own. I guess I'll check the brakes all around this weekend. One other spot I forgot about is the spare. I had them pull the spare and mount the larger 315 tire. I did crawl underneath on Saturday and checked the front axle ujoints and steering links. Nothing with movement.

I haven't heard of it on a 3rd gen, but my 94 had a similar sounding clunk when braking and it turned out to be the lower ball joints. With a little luck, it'll be something easier and cheaper. Something else to check though... .

I did check the driver's side and the ball joints were good. I'll check the passenger side this weekend... sure won't hurt.

NC Mog- keep an eye on this post- we may have the same issue.

It may not be the same thing. Mine is a single clunk that ranges from soft to moderate sound level. Probably related to brakes as it happens when I push the pedal, but I don't want to rule anything out if someone has run across something else.

well on my 04 & 96 I had a clunk in the front end both were the tack bar. And both were due to lift kits, all they needed was a little tightening. On my 04 I also had a clunk in the rear and it was only a loose spare. I'd just crawl under the truck and check everything out, see if anything looks funny or feels loose.

Ditto here. Had the exact same issue you describe on my 97. Lower ball joints.
