transmission Clunking and Tires???

When I let out my clutch and the engine RPM is not quite matched with the road speed I get a clunk as the clutch engages. My question is what is this from and is it something that I should worry about? I've checked the u-joints and they are all tight so I dont think that is it. Also my clutch peddle engages right at the end of its stroke is this normal?



Also I just got this truck two weeks ago and the person before me had put Cooper Discover load range C tires on it. They are 265/75 R16. They seem to be wearing fine but should I worry about them blowing out on me. All I haul is me and a toolbox that proably weighs 200 lbs at most.

It could be a loose engine mount or tran mount.

It could be a broken torsional spring it the clutch or even a rear end with too much back-lash.

Or even some oil on the clutch disc would make it grab.
 
It could also be just the accumulated clearances, of each part, adding up in one big clunk. Most trucks I've driven do it to some degree. It's less pronounced with an automatic transmission because the torque converter eats a lot of backlash. Probably nothing to worry about.
 
This is common on many manual trans trucks. It is just driveline slop. You can reduce the effect if the engine rpm is a little higher when letting out the clutch. The clunk is just a reversal of torque. There is a lot of slop in the rear end where the axle is splined in and the spider gears mesh with the axle gears. If you ever have the rear wheels off the ground, put it in gear with the engine off and the brake released and turn the wheels back and forth, you will see. Or put it in neutral with the wheels on the ground and get under it and rotate the drive shaft back and forth, you will see the slop, very normal.
 
Load range "C" is pretty light for our trucks. I'd check the sidewall to see what exactly the #'s are and compare this to your trucks weight (scaled). It will probably be fine but you may have to run them more to the higher side of the pressure rating? Cooper makes a pretty good tire. my . 02 worth?
