Steering problem:

I have 2000 4x4 short bed extended cab

I am experiencing a creaking/clunking feeling in the steering wheel during braking, accelerating and rough roads. I have just recently cleaned the engine compartment, and this problem has appeared to get worse after this was done.

Would like to find an answer to this also. Mostly just a clunk or a single pop when turn left. But has did it a couple of times turning right. Replaced the track bar the weekend after the Fourth of July with Moog DS1413. Anyplace to get the inner tie rod end anywhere besides the dealer?

fhuff,

Check the drag link tie rod end that attaches to the pittman arm. Mine was bad and behaved just as you described. To check it, have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth (w/ the truck running, parking brake set) and rest your hand on the tie rod end or it might be bad enough to see it move back and forth on the pittman arm. I chose the Borgenson route over the stealer and am quite happy with the results along with the Lukes Link in the track bar.

Fugger about $300 max for parts and $150 for labour.

I have the clunk also. Mine is very sporadic. Some days I have it, some I don't  . I took a twenty mile trip this morning, it was present from time to time. Tonight, driving the same roads, never felt it. I'm going to crawl under the truck tomorrow and check everything I can get a wrench on, it's driving me crazy. Kinda feels like a loose shock when it happens.
