Just took delivery of a 05, 2500/QC/SB/4X4 Laramie with the 48RE. When crossing over speedbumps at an angle I can hear a clunking sound that seems to be coming from underneath the truck somewhere in the front. It is as if something is lose and beating against metal around it. I checked the gas tank, exhaust and shook everything I could see. It all looks buttoned down. Any ideas?

Check your spare tire see if it is loose and needs tightened up. Unless you have pin pointed it somewhere towards the front of the truck.

Did you get running boards or nerf bars put on your truck. That has been known to be an issue. At least it was with mine.

JohnyH,

was it an issue from the start with yours, or did start a while after you got your nerf bars / running boards? Also, what was done to correct the problem?

thanks,vc

It started a while after I installed them. One of the brackets was rubbing on the body mount, metal against metal, and I couldnt reproduce it unless the truck was flexing. I sawed off just a very small portion of the corner of the bracket, and no more noises.
