Life expectency of South Bend Clutch?

Where do I get a 1 3/8" clutch alignment tool? I have talked to 3 parts houses and a dealer, and nobody can get me one. I can get an aluminum one made for about $65, but thats a last resort.

Thats the problem I think he is trying to find a "real" metal shaft not the cheap flexable plastic one. A broken input shaft could make a nice clutch install tool, if broken in the right place.

You have three of them what? Broken input shafts? wow I hope not. If so are they 1 1/4 or 1 3/8's ? Both for 6spds. Jtisdale would need the bigger one and I would need the smaller one... ... just my luck ;-]

Thanks

Craig

Yeah, it's nice to see that South Bend includes a plastic alignment tool with their clutch. If you are careful, and see that it wiggles "equally" in all directions out from centered, it does a fine job.

Easiest way to get a steel one is probably to get a bad input for an old big truck transmission. Lots of truck trannies used 1 - 3/8" x 10 inputs, but most had a 1" pilot bearing not 3/4" like Dodge. So, you will need to use an abrasive cut off to remove the gear, and then chuck it into a lathe and cut down the nose to . 749". Lots of work. . .

Thanks Joe, I never thought of looking at a big truck. Actually, it wouldnt be a lot of work, I already have the lathe... :D
