I just did my clutch and rear main and they were pretty easy.
For the rear main seal, you can either remove the housing to replace it or leave it in there and pull it out by drilling a couple holes in the seal, inserting self-tapping screws and pull it out with some vise grips and a slide hammer. I removed my housing cuz the seal wasn't leaking but there was a pretty nasty leak where it meets the back of the oil pan. You have to have the housing installed to install the seal and get it at the correct depth in the housing. I got my seal remove and install kit from
QUAD4x4. Dan the gear man sends a video along with it for us first timers like me.
One thing I didn't realize when re-installing the housing was, there is a housing alignment tool that you need to center the housing over the crank, then you torque down the housing to block bolts(7ft. lbs) and then torque down the oil pan to housing bolts(18ft. lbs. ). I didn't realize it and installed my seal and part of the teflon seal wasn't visibly touching the crank, so I had to loosen everything up and knock the housing up and to the right a little and got it centered and still crossing my fingers, but no leaks(knock on wood :-laf ).
Overall, it was a simple job, just time consuming from the entire drivetrain removal.
As for a clutch, go with a
South Bend Clutch .
Give them a call if you have any application questions and Peter will set you up with the right one.
