My clutch question is about which South bend clutch to buy, the Con-OFE or the Con-FE. Ive been told the FE is a bit too grabby for a daily driver but I want to be able to put down 500 hp without worrying about the clutch giving out. I was just wondering if anyone with an FE drives their truck everyday and could tell me if its too grabby and hard to drive. Now for my transmission questions, I want to change the fluid in my 5600 and was wondering if what royal purple has is what I should go with and how much does it take to fill it up so ill know how much to order? Second, a couple days ago my transmission seemed to be making a noise. I would describe it as my shifter sounding like its rattling when im driving. It doesnt do it all the time now but when it does it does it in any gear, mostly 3rd and 5th though. If I hold the shifter it doesent make the noise at all and I cant feel anything through the shifter with my hand. Any ideas or reccomendations on what it is? Maybe the fluid change will cure it because my truck has 80,000 without a fluid change(I havent had the truck long, so that one aint on me)

I run the FE daily and it is a bit grabby. General consensus has been that you need to dial up about 1000 rpm when you engage the clutch from a standstill. With a low power setting it is not nearly as picky, but that is not nearly as fun when you need the power!

I run the FE as a daily driver and I don't have any problems with it; though it does take some time to get used too. If you're doing second gear starts then you'll need just a bit of RPM to make a smooth engagement; first gear just let it out and go.

As for fuild I just switched my 5600 over to Redline MT90. This has a SAE 40 rating which is a little thicker then the Redline MTL with has a SAE 30 rating.

JSamples,

SB Con OFE. The new design of the clutch plate might be better able to hold 500 hp but you need to call SB and talk to Peter himself who will not mislead you. If the OFE won't hold that power then I would probably choose a dual disk over the FE.

I really liked the Royal Purple when I had it in my transmission. When my warranty is up on this current reman I will change back to RP and put about 11 qts in it (see my other thread for that story).

As for the noise, who knows? A fluid change is cheap comparably.

Godspeed,
Trent
