Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Clutch fork keeps falling off

We are putting the transmission back in my brother's truck today. It is a 97 2500 with a nv4500. The clutch release fork keeps falling off on us, we have a brand new retainer spring and ball. I am not sure what to do now, any suggestions from you guys.

It doesn't make sense that the pivot end of the fork falls off the ball if you have a good spring properly installed. They are designed to keep it on the ball. Can you provide more info?

use two zip ties, one around the neck of the ball and the other around the neck of the fork cup. Pull tighten both of them and cut the excess off. It works perfect, and after its in there it really doesn't need to hold anyway. Done this way plenty of times, and never a problem any more.

Fork Tool

I made a fork holder out of a short piece of angle iron and a bolt and two nuts. The angle iron goes on one of the slave bolts and positions the bolt to act as the slave pushrod. This pushes the fork forward and holds pressure on the fork -> bearing -> to ball stud. The idea is to position/hold/ and carefully guide the trans in and maintain the fork position, also carefully watch the front bearing retainer as it engages the bearing, you may need to reposition the bearing on the fork.
