Driving in to work this morning, started hearing a bad bearing sound. It sounds like a throwout bearing to me; the sound changes when I push the clutch pedal down but doesn't go away when I let the pedal up. I'm wondering if I need to look more towards the pilot bearing or input bearing in the Getrag. The truck has 136K miles; according to the previous owner the Getrag was changed at 85K miles. I can see a "Dodge Reman" tag on the gearbox, so it has been changed at some point. Any advice, or just tear the rascal out and look at it? Remove trans and transfer together or split first? Never worked on anything quite this big, boss!!! :p

I would no try to drop them attached. I have seen a 727 and a 203 transfer case flip a trans jack over on it side.

As far as the noise. With out hearing it it is hard to play arm chair quarter back. But with the rep of the Getrag trans. Any sound from that area. I would not think twice about pulling it before it got to expensive.
