Hello all I just installed a 4000 GSK kit in my 97 (see sig) & had a big power drop on the top end. It turned out to be the governor

lever adjustment. Well I found out it was never adj. properly. (the #11 plate was polished about . 030" into the fueling curve  )

After adj. my power WENT THROUGH THE ROOF!!! Oo.

But now my clutch slips in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th !??!

So all the advice I can get is needed  ((on a new clutch not a power decrease :p )) (I tow & tow & tow... ... but I dont want an on-off clutch though grabby is ok)

Thanks,

Zac

Con OFE has been recomended?? testimonies??

Whitmore thanks for the reply. Who would ya recomend to purchase the clutch from?? Also did you have the flywheel ground buy the person you bought it from?? (I have a very good machine shop 20 miles from my house. )

I went with Piers in Canada, there are many reputible dealers for Southbend , I would call www.southbendclutch.com and talk to Peter he is cool and he can tell you who has them on sale .

and yes do get your flywheel turned by a GOOD machinest, its a must ... ... ... . Kevin

How much power do you want? I have the ConO and it does very well holding my power and it is so SMOOOOOOOOOOOTH it is unbelievible. The Con OFE is more grabby. All south Bend Clutchs are GREAT you can't go wrong with them or there customer serve!!!!!!

I've been on a ton of diesel after market 'sites and none of them are priced as low as buying direct from South Bend.

After reading all the post's on South Bend Clutchs I decided to call and talk to this "Peter" guy. ;) After about a 5-10 minute conversation on what I plan to do in the future and where I was located he gave me a price and we said goodbye.

SBC Con O from SBC = $600

SBC Con O everywhere else = $640 and up.

The choice is odvious. :D

I'm running the con OFE and love it. I haven't been very nice to it and it seems to hold up very well:D Call Peter at south bend and he'll do you rightOo.

As for SB holding power, well......

I have a con-o in my truck, and twisted the pinion off my rear Dana 70 clean in half doing a brake burn. Guess they hold pretty good:D

The SBC is not in the truck yet but it shipped yesterday. The clutch that I am putting in is the 13" upgrade. Why. . because it was suggested by a number of people. And my buddy that is doing the warranty work on a NON-SBC clutch that he installed for me a couple of months ago wants to put it in! Yes it will cost more than the standard 12. 5" Con O clutch, but what do you gain with the 13"upgrade?? #1 the performance of the SBC,#2 bigger disk so there is more meat in the middle of the disk,#3 the recommendation from the clutch man his self, that if you tow,use exhaust brake. . this is the clutch!

I have been down the clutch road and up until now it has been real bumpie. Also I was getting tire of trying to answer my wife of why I didn't do this the first go around with the clutch replacement.

I spent time talking to Peter(SBC), and Rod(www.WildCatDiesel.com), and the exact words came from both of them. So take this for what its worth... think about the 13" upgrade!!!!

I was long gone. (4000GSK Oo. if you dont have one buy, beg, borrow, or steal to GET ONE)

But UNLOADED I'm having to feather the throttle to keep from burning the clutch !!:{ (after I adjusted the governer lever yesterday CHECK YOURS info at www.piersdiesel.com/LeverAdj.htm )

I'm still gathering info but it looks like I will be getting the MU 13-1. 25 Con FE ??

Hey Dee there might be another 13" upgrade clutch soon that will be just as smooth as the con O. IMO the Con O was the best for trailer towing ( Smother than stock) But it will hold more HP than it can handle with the 1 ton trucks. The CON OFE conversion does work very well but is slightly more grabby in reverse. I am still way satisfied with it so far.

BPINE

Cool tell us more. Hey I also heard this roomer that your trans was held in with velcro. There is this thing about you changing a clutch in 1/2 hour????? :D Oo.

Yes, I do use Velcro but it is the industrial stuff LOL. I can't let the cat all the way out of the bag yet but as soon as Peter gets the parts I will let you know.
