I am needing to replace my clutch on a 2000 6 speed. I got an estimate of close to 1800 to put a luk clutch in and from what i could get out of the guy it was pretty much set for factory HP. I am probly about 100hp over stock and was not sure if this is safe to run that clutch.

What has been everyones experience on the price for haveing a clutch replaced. So far this guy will not let me purchase the clutch and have him put it in. I know everyone likes to have a south bend clutch installed and i would too, just very difficult with a limited amount of places to take a diesel.

Thanks

CH

CH, where are you from? I am sure we can direct you to a place for a lot less money then that and still get a better clutch then stock.

Well i am in Durango Colorado, which is in southwest colorado 7 hours from denver and 8 from phoenix. There are very few places that will take a diesel for that kind of work around here and if they do they are proud of there shop.

Thanks

I got a Luk Gold shipped to my door for about $310, paid $25 to resurface the flywheel. Borrowed a trans jack from a neighor and had my own port-a-power (to spread frame)..... this was 2 years ago.

Hard to believe there can be that much profit & labor!

1800 aint far from what I paid. I found an installer off SBC's website, $900 for clutch and $400 for R/R. I usually do my own work but my dad who helps from time to time just can't get under the truck no more. I am curious about your statement "what I could get out of the guy it was pretty much set for factory HP. I am probly about 100hp over stock and was not sure if this is safe to run that clutch. "

If you are over stock power then a clutch for stock power won't hold up long, IMHO.
