I was headed down the mountain this morning toolin' along at 50 mph or so and noticed a sound as though I was running over very faint "alert strips," kinda like those the highway department adds to the sides and sometimes center of the highway, except not so loud. I didn't pay much attention, but then the sound got louder as I slowed down for a red light. It even felt like I might have a tire going flat, so I stopped and looked. Nothin' wrong there. I kept going and the engine and trans sounded like it was doing fine. Clutch worked O. K. too but by the time I got to Colorado Springs something was really making noise. Oil pressure oil pressure and temp were fine. So being Sunday, I limped in to the Dodge dealership and abandoned the truck for a Monday morning check-out. I'm sure they'll see the Edge EZ and say I'm my own warranty station, but it sure doesn't seem like an engine, trannie or clutch issue to me. Any ideas, anyone? I realize this isn't much information.

YOU BETTER TAKE THAT EDGE OUT!!! They might black ball your truck and it will be in the computer system and they wont warranty the truck anywhere..... I seem to have that problem tooo. I took it in and they replaced the ball joints, the front drive shaft... I still have the problem. . I will be taking it in Monday to see about the rear drive shaft maybe... . 50,000 miles... .

I thought about that. It was Sunday, had my good clothes on, 40 miles from home, etc. Plus, I had it installed (didn't do it myself) along with the guages and not sure about how to take it out other than to disconnect it and leave the wires hanging. That would be a dead give-away.

Ball joints and drive shafts aren't under warranty after 36K, are they? My 03's got 43K.

The drive shaft was under the 70,000 warranty with a 100 dollar deductable... The ball joints on the under hand were not covered, but with a little gripe and a strong arm the district manager gave the ok for the dealership to warranty it with a 100 dollar deductable... This job would have been around 700. 00 bucks..... :--) ... . This still didnt fix the problem I will be going to the dealer tomorrow to see if they will replace the rear driveshaft... . ill let you know BTW my truck had 46,000 mi when i first started to notice this problem... .

That would be great, I'd appreciate you keeping me posted. I'll do the same. The more I think about it the more it sounds like a bearing. I have a pretty good relationship with the guys in the dealership and don't think they will "find" the Edge. Or if they do, I don't think they'll snitch me off.

It will take less than 1 minute to remove, and connect the two senors

I really should have watched 'em install it. But as I told someone else, I have a pretty good relationship with the guys in the dealer service department and don't think they would snitch me off unless it was something major - or maybe needing a new clutch. HOWEVER ... I am gonna get me some learning when I get this puppy out of the shop.

U-joint, not clutch or whatever

Dealer called later today and said one of the U-joints was shot. The mechanic who checked it over recommended if one was being done to do all three while the drive shafts are out. I agreed. Otherwise, nobody got snitched off :) , so that was nice.

Now I wonder why an otherwise good truck would have a U-joint go bad at 43,000 miles. Sorry, but I don't remember which one.

Per my other response, dealer said it was a bad U-joint. He recommended replacing all three instead of just the bad one. :{

Will let you know Tuesday. I forgot to ask when he called. He just said the mechanic who works on 'em recommends replacing all of 'em. He didn't say which one was bad and I was so glad it wasn't the clutch I forgot to ask.

Don't know how many people have tried but it's a bugger bear to get the EDGE off.

What does the reatining clip do, flip? slide up ? who knows cause I sure have pure d h***. :confused:
