Just purchased the truck in my sig, I noticed on the drive home that the clutch pedal does not return all the way back up, lacks like 1/8" up top. Everything works fine just I can with my foot lift up on the pedal slightly, is this normal?

It's been a long time since I have driven a bolt action (years actually). The reason I ask is she has an exhaust brake and it does not always kick in. The throttle is returned completely and clutch is out but if I jiggle the clutch pedal it will sometimes kick in and work. So I'm thinking that this wiggle room is where I need to start looking and before I go off on a wild goose chase I thought I should ask first.

So what's the collective have to say about this?

argve,

Open the hood, and check the mico switch adjustment on the throttle linkage stop. It sounds as if it is out of adjustment.

I put my on/off switch for the PacBrake on the shifter. I bought it from piers, nice set up and is illuminated when in the on position.

No help/info on my part with brake pedal travel.

crabman :)

The previous owner did mention that the switch does have a nasty habit of getting out of adjustment but I thought since there as a couple of times I wiggled the clutch pedal then flipped the switch and it worked that might be a problem. I'll check it tomorrow morning after work and see what it has to say for it's self. I remember seeing a some pretty good sized slots for it slide around in, my first thought was I might take some measurements and do a govt project at work some night. (make new mounting bracket back in the machine shop).

What all triggers the exhaust brake? My thought pattern says throttle, clutch and manual switch on on lower portion of dash (want to move this as I have to bend over to reach it). I like the gear shift idea, might look into that.

Does the switch on the gear shift deal replace the knob? Or is it a strap it on deal? This Piers diesel that you speak of the same one as I find online?

Don't know of any 12 valvers that use anything other than the micro on the throttle. Brake and or clutch should have no effect on the E brake. The newer ones are a horse of a different color.

I would take the throttle controlled micro-switch off and throw it in the trash. Install a push / pull switch on the gear shift and be done with it. No hassle with the micro switch, and positive engage/disengagement everytime.

Yeah Piers Diesel is the same one you probably found online. Good guy, knows his stuff, and sells QUAILTY parts. :D

argve,

I have had to adjust the micro switch on mine twice in 5 years. Check to see if there is a backing plate on the bottom that the screws go into. The backing plate grips the entire width of the bracket and keeps the switch from moving. The switch is very easy to adjust, just loosen the 2 screws and slide the switch toward the throttle assy until you hear it "click", tighten screws.

The shifter on/off switch does not replace the knob, not in your/my year trucks.

The throttle activates the e/b, when you release the pressure on the throttle petal and it returns to the idle position.

crabman :)

PS, I would highly recommend that you get gauges if the truck does not have them.

crabman,

It has a westach dual gauge pyro/boost all in one deal - yuk... too much going on in one little 2inch circle. The pyro side is not working, previous owner said he thinks the probe is burned out, but in my experience (industrial maintenance) normally it's just plain bad connections so that is my first stop on that troubleshooting train. Might be wrong, more than likely I am but will see - never know every once in a while a dog does get a piece of the warm sidewalk.

I'm thinking about switching to an A Pillar setup with individual gauges for boost and pyro. That westach just is not my cup of tea as they say. I have been on the drive home just keeping the boost to below 20psi since when I slam the pedal down (toes tickling injectors) that she can slam past 30 psi in a hurry, my thought pattern was don't run the boost up and the egt's should not rise to much (at least this has been my experience in my ford idi. When I did run the boost up I did not hold it for very long at all.

I had a jake exhaust brake on my '95 and it had two sensor switches: one on the throttle linkedge and the other is on the clutch inside the cab.

The switch on the clutch pedal is for cruise disengagement, not exhaust brake. How can the brake work if the clutch is not engaged?

Well just to update everyone. I found the problem the switch for the throttle works when it wants to (as in when the stars and planets are aligned in some cosmic array). I pulled the switch completely off and found that - Clicky = Worky / No Clicky = No Worky. So I'll have to get in touch with Pac Brake and order a replacement or see what we have here at work in the junk pile (we throw away good stuff all the time) and make that work (I'm known as one of the resident dumpster divers/junk men).

I also found out that yep the pryo probe is toast. So called Geno's today and placed an order for a replacement (also ordered those cup holders I was considering - so I guess I will have to update ye ole sig now)...

Any yep when the exhaust brake works if I tag the clutch she turns off, so it's tied into the clutch switch in my application.

That westach dual gauge is starting to grow on me a little so I guess I will keep it around for a while - funny how when something is different you don't like it but after a while you get to thinking different...

If you call Pac Brake, you might ask about a modified microswitch with a long spring on it. It makes contact with the gas (fuel) pedal and provides better switching than the one operating on the linkage. It fixed my problems.

I have not seen one of these. Of course, I am talking about Jacobs and not Pac. With yours, can you use the brake for faster engine warmup at idle?

Replaced the switch today with one I liberated from work (actually made by same company just different tang to actuate it). So all is well in dieselville. She triggers like a champ.

Yep I can set mine so that at idle while in the house she's holding back the stream. :)

Sometimes us old folks have brain farts. Mine are getting more frequent. Hope I can find the front door tomorrow morning so I can retreive the paper.

Travis???? I can not believe you crossed over!!!!!!! I don't know if you remember me, but I had the 94 250 IDI "Mufasa"

I thought your words were "IDI till I die"????

Well, enough of that, WELCOME, good to see a familiar name and fellow BOOB man!!!!

Post some pictures when you get a chance!

Hey Jake... It's been a while... Yep once was Die hard IDI not so now... hee hee...

I have been wanting to zap some pics of The Nanny Goat as I affectionally call her but just haven't gotten around to it. I do have some on webshots under argve1 these were the ones that the previous owner sent me when I was shopping for her. She has changed a little bit on the outside since - lost the topper / gained a tonnoue (sp?) picked up a set of fiberglass running boards, and bug shield for her nose.

I'll see about grabbing some here in the next few days as I do need to do that... I'll shoot ya a pm

Trav, I tried to look it up on webshots, but no go. Glad to see you on this side. I am not sure of the "issues" with the 95ers, but the 99er's like to eat money. Seems like there is always something. Someone on here has in their sig "Continuing to get the Dodge out of my Cummins" or something like that. We buy these trucks for the engine and there is a lot of extra crap that comes with it... ... but I am remembering Mufasa and how he like the smell of green also... . so what is wrong with us????? One word..... Diesel!

BOOB Man forever!!!!

Enjoy your truck... ... I am going to try to get some updated pics of the pig, just don't have time... ... . you see the wife divorced me... ... . I bought the pig... ... ... best rebound love I have made!!! Sure am not going to miss her thats for sure... ... the ex!

Anyway..... enjoy and again WELCOME!!!!

Jake

Jake,

You know the history of The Enterprise she ate buckets of money for breakfast then was hungry again around 9am, noon, 2pm, 4pm then ate solid until the sun went down - hee hee I have come to the conclusion that it does not matter what we drive - we gonna throw money at them - why well why not... . It's a love affair thing... Sherri at times thinks of my trucks as "the other woman"... hee hee. bad thing is I'm not so sure she isn't right

I have no real complaints The Nanny Goat has 184k miles on the clock and is in better shape that The Enterprise at half that mileage - heck truth be told this Dodge is in better shape than The E at 60k - eek sad to say but it's true. I know I'm tickled to death with this truck only thing is she's only a ext cab. But Sherm and Annie are small yet so we can survive.
