i put a new 13 inch flywheel clutch and all in my truck. now its hard to get it into 1st and reverse. if i pump it it goes right in. it dosnt slip anymore. i think theres air in it but thers no way to bleed it. can i just adjust the rod under the dash for more travel?or what else can i do?thanks

I got this from a thread a while back. Bleeding clutch system

Un-bolt the slave cylinder from the bell housing, take lid off resivour.

Have second person watch the resivour with the lid off while the other person slowly pushes the slave rod in and out. The second person wathes for air bubbles. It should take about 10 times until second person can't see anymore air bubbles.

vaicase,

I had the same problem and a couple more. The clutch hydraulics are non-adjustable. I replaced all of my clutch hydraulics and it didn't do a thing. That system is so simple and so few parts it can't mess up unless there is a hole in it. It sounds like your pilot bearing is too tight and lets things still turn after you push in the pedal. Mine did it for a couple of months and just started working flawlessly. Either take out the transmission and check the bearing or wait until it loosens up.

I had similar symptoms after putting in my first dual disc clutch. When I wrote about it there were a lot of suggestions - dragging pilot bearing, release mechanism not fully releasing, etc.

When the clutch started slipping and I replaced it with a new dual disc last summer, I also has the transmission rebuilt. After that, and after a short break in, the shifting problem went away. Not sure whether it was the new clutch or the rebuild.

For what its worth, while WDaniels is correct that the stock clutch release system is not adjustable, an adjustable one can be purchased from SouthBend Clutch. It's heavier duty (larger slave cylinder) and there's an adjustment on the rod that connects to the clutch pedal. Surprisingly, they are about the same price as a stock one from the dealer.
