On my 2002 2500 the clutch pedal safety switch is acting up sometimes it starts other times no start I know it's a bad safety switch and being on a fixed income $80 is too spend for me
I can live without this so called safety item so here's my question if I cut and splice the wires together will my cruise control still work properly because I do use cruise a lot so I don't want it disabled ???
Pappy

I would think so but you will need to remember it will start in gear and the cruise will not cancel when you hit the clutch

Not worried about starting in gear I've been a CDL driver for 50 years and if it operates like a big truck I'll be happy
I know most of the earlier models if that switch isn't operating it kills the cruise control ?? So I just didn't know if the 02 model was different

Don't know about your 02 but my cruse works and I have by passed mine. Trying to eliminate the start problem. I use the brake pedal to release the cruse and anticipate my shifting to other gears. Don't use cruse all that much anyway.

Thanks guys I think I'll cut and splice my clutch switch then drive it and check that the cruise works OK
I only want to do this once since at my age (70) gettin under the dash is a major job

Well that didn't work after splicing the switch wires together I lost my cruise control
Any other good ideals ??? Hopefully proven fixes ???

I really don't want to replace this switch I prefer to eliminate this clutch safety switch but as I stated I want to keep my cruise control operating
I'm sure someone has a fix among all our members

If the truck starts it will not be the problem.I would not have cut the wires. The auto trucks have a jumper that plugs into that connector.Would have been a quick part to grab at a pick a part.

Bob the truck has a intermittent no start situation I've traced it to the clutch safely switch and I'm at the point where I don't need this safety device I've been a CDL driver for 50 years I can start a truck and not have it in gear and don't think it's needed on my truck but I can't live without cruise control and would like a work-around this problem of having this device disabled and still keep my cruise working

Here are wiring diagrams for the Starter Circuit and the Cruise Circuit on a 2002. I do not see the clutch switch on the cruise circuit. I also see the automatics have the wiring for the clutch safety switch and they have a jumper that plugs in. If the switch is bypassed, all systems would "think" the clutch pedal is depressed. If the pedal is depressed I dare say the cruise will not set. I'd say just replace the switch or rig it on a toggle where you can manually switch it to start and switch it back for your cruise to work.

The clutch safety switch has to be in the cruise control circuit because it disengage's the cruise when pushed down disengaging the clutch or is there something else that tells the cruise to disengage ???
So BigPapa even tho its not in the schematics then it's gotta be magic ??? Or programing in the ECM ???
Yes I could wire in a toggle switch but any time I see them I'm thinking tacky way to do things

OK I hooked the clutch switch back up took it out for a drive to verify that pushing the clutch pedal in does disengage the cruise control and it did....so I guess my only option is a toggle switch unless someone smarter then me knows another way to remove this device
I've Google this switch till my eyes crossed with no luck to eliminate this device....but I have a buddy that works at a dodge dealership maybe he can shed some light on my problem since I know he's done a lot of reflashes to these rams and knows about the ECMs

The pcm controls the cruise,it uses many inputs to allow it to work.Like I said just use the bypass jumper from an automatic truck. You may have a wiring issue if you did short the 2 wires correctly.

I never said it didn't affect the cruise. Obviously it does, all I was saying is I didn't see it on the diagram.

Wiring around a safety device is a "tacky way to do things." Especially when someone offers you the switch for free.

Not sure about your 02, but my 01 5 speed had this done from the time I bought it. Never even realized until one day I was working under the dash and saw a plug with the wires connected together. My cruise worked fine, everything did, except you could start the truck with the clutch engaged and pressing the clutch would not instantly disengage the cruise. How exactly did you cut and jump the wires? My guess is that there is something else causing this or maybe it's something to do with how you jumped the clip? On my truck the po had left the plug connected, then spliced the wires in the switch side. Maybe the plug had the be connected?

As far as getting under the dash at your age, 70, being a major job, how many times so far have you done this? Why not take free switch offered, do one more major job and call it done. MHO
