Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) The last Dodge for me

My clutch is giving me problems. I took the truck to work today and on the way home the clutch started feeling soft. I stopped at a gas station and when I came out I had to pump the clutch about 20 times to even get it in reverse and then when I pushed it in after backing up the truck died because I had no clutch. Well, after a few more pumping it up and going incidents I limped it home. After I got home I crawled underneath it and looked at the slave cylinder and master cylinder under the hood and at the floorboard. There is no leaks. When you push the clutch in it goes stiff to the floor but when you hold it at the floor it sounds as though air is leaking out and then only has the return spring pressure.

Do you guys think this is the master or slave cylinder? My bet is the master. Where is the best place/price/quality combination to get a new master or slave?

I think the truck data is in my signature, but it is a 2002 2500 QC LB 5spd.

Thanks for any info,

Bryce

Just went through the same thing two weeks ago. The easiest fix is the kit from the dealer. It replaces both pieces, and you don't have to bleed it, just bolt it on and go.

I've heard as low as $150, but I got mine here for $200.

Has anybody just bought the parts from NAPA? $200 for what could be just the master cylinder seems kinda steep to me.

Thanks for the info so far,

Bryce

Well for your 200 you get both pieces and you need to replace both of them at the same time. If you go with napa make sure its the right size. I was going to get one from them but it would not work.

Yeah, I just went out and looked at it again. It doesn't even look like it bleeds like any clutch system I am used to. NAPA's web page doesn't even list the parts. Guess I'll be calling my dealer when they open up in about 20mins.

Thanks,

Bryce

Fixed

Thanks for the info guys. I bought the whole assembly $199. 99 and swapped it out, it works perfect again. The new assembly comes in a two piece assembly where the line between the master and slave has a quick connect fitting. My original just had a hard line connection between the two. It looks as if you ever had to replace one or the other again you could just do the master or the slave.

Thanks again

Bryce

I had this happen today, bought the two pieces from napa and now I cant get it to bleed out the air, really frustrating. And since I installed it, I don't think they will take the parts back. I wouldnt mind spending another 200 if I knew it was that easy. Wish i would have looked in this area earlier! Thanks for the help,
