Something is wrong with my truck! I was showing off to a friend yesterday so he could hear my new exhaust. I went from about a 5 mph roll and went WOT through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, then let off the throttle and went to press the clutch in. I felt and heard a small clunk on the pedal and it went further to the floor. I lost some pedal pressure, so I figured it was a clutch slave or master problem. Then I tried to get it into gear and it would not go into any gear. Again a slave or master problem popped into my head. So with the momentum I had, I wanted to make it into a parking spot at some apartments so flew into them and went to park. I pressed on the pedal a few times and it did not feel the like I was used to. It had a much lighter presser. I let the truck sit for a few minutes and I was able to get it into gear. I did smell clutch when I popped the hood. I let it cool down for about 10 minutes and started it back up. Pedal still felt slighter. I checked the clutch fluid and it was full and clean. I was able to get it into gear and babied it back to my gf's apartment.

I can now get it into any gear, 4th and 5th are kinda rough along with reverse, but it will go. In 2nd gear and reverse starting from a roll i feel a rough vibration until the truck gets up to about 5 mph. THe vibration is pretty sever and noisy, almost like a driveshaft clunking around. once it gets moving, it is smooth and works great. I am leaning towards a pressure plate or clutch disc along with a slave or master. I just don't know how they failed all at once. Or perhaps it could be a throw out bearing. Could this be a clutch problem or slave and master problem? With the vibration I am leaning towards the clutch. The truck has 57,000 thousand miles on it, only mods are a 5" exhaust. 01 4x4 6 speed q/c. Any sugggestions would be appreciated.

Jason,

Sounds like the center of the clutch disk has come apart. Join the club. It happened to me when I was on a cross-country trip. I heard a clunk like you described, and the pedal seemed easy to push, but hard to make the transmission go into gear. About 700 miles down the interstate, it finally let go and when I took it apart, the whole center section was out of the clutch disk. I suspect the clunk I heard originally was one of the springs on the disk letting go. It isn't good to drive it like that. Transmission synchros aren't very forgiving. At the time, I had only an edge EZ and was towing a gooseneck trailer weighing 12000 lbs. Mike

I thought that was mostly just a problem on 5 spd trannys. I guess it still happends on 6spds but just not as much.
