ok my question is doese anybody know anything about breaking in new clutches the truck is a 94 cummins 2x4 5 spd 3500 dually w/ a banks stinger system on it the thing is the clutch was just replaced at 16000 and it hasn't been right since 191000 and four stock clutches later my theory is that the clucth isn't be broken in right cuz everytime the clutch is changed my mom who owns the truck just gets in and drives off w/ a 6 horse trailer anyways she says im wrong because the diesel shop hasn't said its bad but i know from working on old gassers that u don't get in and just drive off w/ a load or like ur trying to qualify anyways tell me what u think is going on or what it could be

btw the problem since the first new clutch is it will buck and chatter when trying to manever and ur easing the clucth not riding it just when it starts to enage its very rough and not right

get rid of that stock clutch and put in a centerforce dual friction and a the bigger flywheel, press in the bearing. we have solved this problem for many of our customers!

An upgraded clutch would be a better idea, such as a South Bend unit. I was told by them to give the truck plenty of around town, stop and go driving to break it in. Driving normally, unloaded is the best way to break the clutch in according to Woody at SBC.

yeah ive told my mom to get a better clutch but i think not totaly sure but the shop said that the clutch should hold it and they do know there stuff also she wants to sell the truck and get a newer rig and yes it will be a dodge cummins i think she wants the hpcr tho i think a newer 12v would work 24 would be nice except for the vp/lp problem but anyways thanx for the replies it helps me make my argutment for what i was saying and maybe she will listen as far as break in how much around town stop and go 10 20 50 60 what

200 miles damn that thing rarely doesn't see a trailer that would be tough to do for us

i havent talked to her yet since shes in sacromento at a horse show but when she gets back im telling her about this and hey keep the advice coming

Peter at SBC told me the best way to break in a clutch is to pull something with it. Also, he said downshifting to slow down the truck is a big no no he said nothing is harder on a clutch.

Anythimg up to the rated capacity. Our camper weighs 10,000 lbs. and I had to pull it right after I had a new clutch put in and Peter said that was perfect way to break in a clutch.
