My '07 5. 9 is bone stock. This weekend the clutch started slipping while towing a trailer of about 4000 lbs at highway speeds. The truck has only 20,000 miles on it. Is this a common problem with the DMF setup on the newer trucks? By the way, it has always seemed to me that this clutch does not engage until it is near the top of the pedal travel---Just like in the old days when the clutch cable was adjusted too tight and wouldn't allow the clutch to fully engage. (I realize the DMF clutch is hydrolic, and that there are no adjustments.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Mine engages about 1/2 of the way up. I've got a Smarty which I leave on sw#1 and carry a 2,000# camper on it. No problema yet,but I know it's coming. Start researching SBC and Valair. Any of them are going to be noisier than the stocker.

Sound like you have an issue with your OEM clutch. Did you buy the truck new? If so, have you or anyone else been slipping the clutch? Do you take off in 1st or 2nd? If you bought it used, the previous owner could have slipped it one too many times. I have almost 20K on the stock clutch and it does not slip untill I go up the freeway ramp and get on it and that with the Smarty set at SW #6 with a37" tires. Have you adjusted the clutch pedal? When my wife drives the truck (it is a scarry site to see a 115 lbs 5ft woman driving a 9,000lbs diesel truck:{) she always adjust the pedal almost all the ay up and eac time I get in I have to adjust it. If you don't have adjustable pedal it sound like your clutch is by-by and you need to give Peter at SBC a call for his famous DD clutch. :-laf

Yes, I bought the truck new and no, my wife doesn't drive it. It doesn't have have adjustable pedals. In the nearly 50 years I've been driving, I've never owned an automatic---so I'm confident that I'm not abusing the clutch. I think it must have been built and delivered with a defect. We'll see what happens when I discuss this with the dealer.

I have an '07, 5. 9 and I towed a 7,000 lb trailer, 4 adults with a 80lb Labrador in the cab. I also had a smarty Jr on the 70hp setting. No slippage. I have about 15,000 mi.
You sound like a kind of guy that wouldn't tear up a clutch. I say that there is a defect somewhere.

My experience

I ran a similar post about the middle of Sept My problem was all of a sudden I couldn't shift gears with the motor running With the engine off I would put it into gear and then start the engine the truck would want to move even with the clutch all the in I took into the dealer and they replaced the pressure plate disc flywheel and clutch master cylinder All at no cost to me My truck is an 06 with about 23000 miles The tech at the dealer said this a common problem and there is some sort of recall or what ever they call that sort of thing Got my truck back yesterday and everything is top shape and I'm a happy man again

Well, you arn't the only one with that problem. I have an earily 07 with a 5. 9, mine is also stock and has only 46000m and its slipping. I tow a 5500 pound camper with it and i do not race it. I am a class a cdl driver so a standard transmission is no stranger but i find it a good time to upgrade. i have been told to research south bend and valair, but from the sounds of it, if you upgrade to a hd clutch you also need to buy a hd slave assembly.

You are not alone mine lasted to 53K and started slipping on the top end towing a 10K 5th wheel and then followed with the dual mass flywheel vibrating.

Just call Peter at soutbend he will take of you right the first time.

There is a TSB on the DMF clutches in the 06-07 trucks regarding slippage and broken self-adjusters... If you're still under warranty, take it in, let em fix it, then go buy a real clutch from SBC and install it over a weekend. You'll have a new stock clutch/flywheel to ebay and a bruiser in the truck that will actually handle the loads we put on these trucks.

Southbend Clutch is the ONLY WAY to GO,There replacement is a close to stock as you can get for Smooth Engagment and NOISE. I have the Con O model with A Solid Flywheel and the truck is actually quiter than it was with the stock Dual MASS Setup.

:)I allso went with the southbend clutch its been about a year ago when my dm flywheel came apart at or around 90,000 + miles. I did the install myself and really exspected it to be alot harder than it was. with all the support from the members of this site and a week of vacation all went well and is still rolling down the road at 150,000 miles, The southbend clutch and solid flywheel up grade that I installed is still working great. You sure can tell a big difrence in the hook up on the southbend vs. stock. 2006 QC 3500 6SPD 4X4 INFERNO RED SOUTHBEND CLUTCH SOLID FLYWHEEL,
