First of all I dont want to here about the $ 1,000.00 plus South Bend Clutch I cant afford those and for that much they should come to my shop and install it .

OK heres my question I know its probally not worth useing but here is what i want to know .

Can a dual Mass Clutch be installed in a gen 1 truck , I have a very low milage unit sitting here i obtained .
If not hit me up and ill sell you it or trade it as i have extra peices as well that are dual mass parts .

Since you already own it and if you do the install, I see nothing wrong with it. Just because it is low milage does not mean it is a good one. Remember a NV4500 or Getrag has a 1.250 input shaft. What is the clutch out of?

Nick

I think its out of a gen 3 6 speed truck , but according to the LUK tech line it wont work , the disk fits the splines ill probally use the one i had a stock replacement luk but i was curious if any one wants the dual mass i got it actually 3 with the others as parts the one looks new and like isaid i will sell or trade cheap

Thats probally what i will do . When i do up the power it will be under the 400 HP mark more like 300 im guessing

Andy, for reference my '91 has the original, it dyno's 263/708, at about 270k I pulled it and only changed the throwout bearing, the clutch was still good, it has 318k now. The OEM style is available for $390-$450, don't let them sell you an "upgrade" it will be a 12.250" disk v/s the factory 13".

I just did a quick search: Auto Zone, #NU0087, OEM style, $443....Rock Auto, AMS #05053, OEM style, $390 or AC Delco #381070, OEM style, $438.

I was able to piece together a new OEM SACHS clutch kit by shopping around on fleabay. Probably have about 300 bucks in it all. I got the new big heavy cast iron pressure plate and a 13" disc off of fleabay. New Sachs throw out bearing and pilot bushing came from rock auto. It holds pretty good, but it will start to slip in 5th gear if I drive like a teenager. I am probably pushing 240 HP and just under 600 ft. lbs.

No but I know they can build what ever you want also Six states has what ever you like in performance LuK Brands and a few others

At what point "HP Wise" do you suggest getting away from stock clutch, and moving up to the higher performance clutches??

I had a stock 0090 SBC clutch when I first converted the 1990 from the 727 tot he getrag as that was all I could afford at the time. I was doing 274/720 at the wheels. I chose to pull the clutch at 1 year mark as I was planning a cross country trip and didnt want issues in the rockies at wot. When I pulled the clutch it was still good, but you could see slippage marks in some areas.

To answer your question more detailed, it depends how you use the power. If you use more HP vs TQ, you will get more life out of it. For our trucks, the TQ at WOT will be the killer of the clutch, not the HP. So if you stay wot above 2000 rpm you are less likely to slip it as you are using the HP vs running full tq at 1600 rpm wot. That will but life.

So how much? Depends on how you use it.
